i appreciate all that you wrote here.

"i think you confuse preference for who is objectively a better musician" i think you confused me. i never did this. actually my entire line of questioning has been trying to get to the bottom of whether it can indeed be an objective thing at all or not.

throughout my posts i have also made the conscious decision to avoid making any particular case about Kendrick, Drake, or Cole (whom you seem to have left out, shocker) being wholly and objectively better than the other two. again, that would go against my entire thesis.

now. in your 3rd paragraph you began to list some of the attributes that you believe Kendrick possesses that pushes him past his counterparts in terms of their artistry. and maybe we can agree on some of those attributes. but i guess my point remains that whenever this discussion is had it's gotta be much more layered than "kendrick/drake/cole is CLEARLY better" and the responses will always vary because...well...subjectivity.

ive always seen Cole as just being a less interesting version of what Kendrick has been doing honestly. He is a pretty respected rapper but I'd wager it has more to do with him speaking on substantial things rather than the actual music/artistry which many times is a stale impersonation of old Kanye or GKMC era Kendrick.

And I think I did address that objectively one can be a better artist. You may prefer someone else more because you think they do a certain thing better or maybe their lyrics/music relates more to you, but I think it is kind of nonsense to say objectivity doesn't exist because how could one be taken seriously if they seriously think D'Angelo is not a superior musician to Trey Songz?

Ok. I understand and I agree it will always be technically subjective. But if we can’t have an honest conversation about why bob Marley is better then that’s not a person worth arguing with. I think any sensible person that knows music and listens to more than their favorite artist will agree with three things.

Music is subjective
Popularity doesn’t equal quality
And Kendrick makes better albums

i mean but you don't have to be kidding is the thing. you just gotta say more to back it up. and i feel like that can be easily done with kendrick.

idk. we're on a music forum and i feel like we can get to so much more interesting places than "kEnDrIck is CleArLy BettER." if kendrick makes better albums, then why? because we say so? because he takes more time and puts "more thought" into it? who are we to say that?

rather, let's dig into the makings of an album. songwriting, production, vocals, sequencing, pacing, instrumentation, etc etc etc. whatever we can think of. that rarely, if ever, happens on here. instead an album that we should all be taking time to a***yze comes out and we're too busy being worried about what our least favorite stan is gonna say about it. lowkey pathetic to ya boy lmao

this turned into a criticism about this forum but yeah whatever kendrick we need that album dawg.
