yea i want tyler to try something new on his next album 100% also lowkey grow up lol

i'd recommend u check out the new posthumous ( ) drakeo album. he was a big inspiration on kendrick's output this decade

Thing is though I feel like he doesn’t have to switch up at all if he really doesn’t want to because even if I want him to, a huge chunk of his fanbase are white indie kids who love the fact he used “gay chords” (lol) and doesn’t make conventional sounding rap.

I think doing something totally conventional would be a really cool detour for his artistry though.

GNX is pretty conceptual it’s just not as overt and heavy handed but it’s quite easy to see the concept

Feels like a better version of Kamikaze by Eminem to me. Same lighting in a bottle energy throughout.

Said it before this like his introspection towards his artistry but also the reincarnation themes are scattered throughout like @mos_def said

It is a sampler platter of the rest of his career indie side there isnt enough substance or messaging to be the planned album. It is a fun ride coming out of a therapeutic album. It is nice coming off of again such harsh songs as not like us which was upbeat for some but really it was darker than meet the grahams to me because once its kids, teenagers, olympians dancing to calling him a pedophile an heart part 6 drops , people getting shot, beef was a lot less fun. Meet the grahams was fun story telling an while harsh was still visual felt like a goo parent teeacher conference like moment

I just dont want or nee rest of ken rick career sorry d key broken to revolve around beef to a large degree so these fun dance moments are good. I am tired of "big 3 " discussion when anyone who actually follows all rap these should not be your top 3 rappers lyrically. Most commercially successful yes but the best in the game f*** no

i really do believe tyler is the type of artist that would like to switch things up. all he needs is new perspective which is why i said he's gotta grow up. also ik his fans are eating it up (unless he drops a cherry bomb )

Yea I feel the same way lowkey but Luther grew on me, I think it just takes a while to start

Yeah i mostly just listen to them when banging the whole thing front to back, as a change of pace they re essential and a big part of this project not just feeling like a short bangers and slappers mixtape

To your point about GNX not being a conceptual album

The Luciferian/reincarnation concept is actually littered throughout the album just very, very subtly outside of reincarnated and man in the garden

The intro tracks hook plays into it as well. although, it went over most people’s heads

I thought of that possibility often on multiple listens but it definitely needs a bit more cohesive tissue. I am a lupe fan but even with him I like it to be like "aight it feels like I am reaching" but not so much that like people arent connecting it quickly on their own. A skit where people realize who the consistent mexican singer is . Something where just people talking for a moment something to break up the parts and flow transition wise really makes albums last longer an feel much more visual for me personally. I cant put it in my top 10 as much as week 1 I was spinning it. Its fallen off for me. I love it in the club but my day to day morning and s*** I kind of burnt it out some

I feel like there was a shift after Cherry Bomb and Flower Boy-IGOR-CMIYGL-Chromakopia all kind of belong in the same family.

My grip with Chromakopia was that it didn’t feel distinctive enough sonically to what he did on the previous 3. I think FB/Igor/CMIYGL all did a good job of all being distinctive, even if they all had a similar sound palate.

The new one is very forward thinking and progressive for Tyler when it comes to what he’s saying but I feel like I’ve heard most of what he’s doing on Chromakopia on previous albums before. I just don’t understand the high praise as much perhaps.

Trailer video has to have symbolic resonance, it’s too specific.

Kendrick stepping out of the car on the right and crouching under a beam of circular light that then transitions to him in the same pose with an entirely different fit (the fit before the cut is the one on the album cover), above him, again, are circular lights.

    Like, that’s duality imagery, clearly.

Also, is he squatting on a piano at the end?

I think Chromakopia reads as someone who wants to mature and grow but is fearful and lost as to how to do so due to his upbringing.

Mans been in the public spotlight since he was 19 and a whole core of his identity was him being a b****** and hating his pops.

With the revelation that his moms deliberately kept him away from that it paints his past music and career in a whole different light.

He better than me I’ll say that lmaoo

I’m also not huge on Dodger Blue compared to yall but I won’t skip it when I’m playing the album because it’s a nice short intermission for the energy of the album

I see what you’re saying and I respekt your opinion fam

Maybe he intentionally camouflaged the conceptual nature of the album to give off the sense of a west coast banger project. Partially since his public perception as an artist has always been to drop heavily conceptual albums

Also, when it comes to Lupe’s bars-we may not be reaching enough
