this is the sort of entitlement that i see from white fans in hip-hop that made me become more picky on who i discuss the s*** with

like it's fine to talk about the art but to talk about black culture like you're an expert when ur a white guy from Germany?
as much as I enjoyed Drake finally getting his deserved shade my position on this beef overall is that it's a money milking venture from both parties in the end. it's just self-aggrendizing and enjoying the attention and not once saying anything about pressing issues like palestine or the completely ruinous state of the music industry rn.
Kendrick's post-Damn era has been rly underwhelming for me, not just because he used to stylize himself as politically outspoken, but it just generally seems like wealth is getting to him and he's lacking content that's rly relevant for the average listener.
mr. morale at least still had an interesting sound, not like us is still cool too but overall I also found the music a bit boring and it almost feels like he's sliding more and more into an eminem "greatest rapper alive" lyrical acrobatic but again just not with a whole lot to say. like yes he did a couple good incisive tracks taking down Drake but first off he's almost like too easy a target and secondly it's just getting stale now with the 7th diss
might not be an entirely fair critique cause I did not sit down and take apart all these tracks because I just pretty quickly got tired of it all, most of these I just listen once out of faint interest and yawn

don't forget he had people like Blxst, Amanda Reifer, and Summer Walker on it as well. not to mention Sam Dew who was all over the f***ing thing. this guy is just saying s*** for the sake of saying s***
It’s crazy cus Sam Dew is really all over the album, its like finding an Easter egg when you find his vocals
not what I meant. I mean I'm literally arguing that the album should be taken serious as a political statement
I mean as a white suburban dude I can say that the album directly inspired me to reflect on how political hip hop is and in turn studying the history of racism in US more, which in turn lead me to reflect on racism in Germany, postcolonial theory, bell hooks, etc down the line.
but the fact that there's so many bachelors and masters on "TPAB and racism" and it being the #1 album of all time on predominantly white suburban userbase of RYM does make you think that maybe the message was too simple to digest or even this white guilt giving a weird form of comfort rather than getting ppl out of their comfort zone (which I think you could define as the stated goal of political art)
it's not that reception defines the art but it can often tell you a lot about what it offered to ppl and also the shortcomings of it. like I dunno what does it say about Wolf of Wall Street that it inspired a whole generation of stupid capitalists, I think it's a great film but it clearly worked against its own message too. it's def a very complex relationship but still one worth thinking about imo
timeline doesnt check out cause we definitely had to inform you that the American Civil War was over and that Canada was never involved well after TPAB came out

wait wut?
Y'all thought y'all got rid of condom eyes huh?
You can't get rid of an idea
nah befly his own very unique entity
wait wut?
thats just the tip of the iceberg as far as absurdly misguided/uninformed/weird beflygelt opinions go tbh. hes not a bad guy just super oblivious.

a Euro as an OP of the sLums thread is some crazy work
I called out that German for being the OP of that thread a long time ago. Dumbass thought that artists being extremely pro black and promoting black power meant that they were being "racist" and misguiding people. He also saw no issues with non black fans walking around wearing merch with the pan African flag on them. Dude clearly has no clue about what goes on over here

unparalleled level of cognitive dissonance
definitely some sort of white guilt fetish going on here

Aye you can feel over you want to feel.. but why would you expect rap beef to center around the Palestine conflict or anything really political?
no fair enough I didn't wanna say there is nothing to dig. I mean more that it's a trend I'm seeing with his music from then on
I can also just say gkmc and TPAB is imo god tier writing, DAMN still had a lot of that, Mr Morale was cool w many moments of greatness but I see it as a declining trend atm
The trend from MM&TBS on? We don’t really know what direction he’ll take tbh he hasn’t dropped the album yet.. in fact this is the only song he’s dropped that wasn’t attached to the beef as much as some people want it to be.
But even on albums like DAMN or GKMC he still touched on real issues while making bangers and rapping

Because yall engaging with folks that got into hip hop as a tool (similar to buddy buddy) and not as a way of life

we really never know how this nigga gon come
palestine has a different feel to it than just your average political issue. I rly think ppl will look back on the 20s as what the 30s were to the last century tbh. netanyahu is probably the closest we've had to a hitler since then.
I'm not putting this squarely on kendrick and drake but the silence of all these mainstream artists of hip hop, a genre which is supposed to be one of resistance and outspoken political position, rly speaks volumes about where the genre is at rn.
it's supposed to be a voice of solidarity with people who are struggling and instead it's just become another voice of the ultra-rich.
I agree with you on how detached mainstream hip hop has become to speaking on real issues but it’s not a Kendrick and Drake thing it’s intentional. Music with a purpose simply isn’t being pushed to the forefront and when you do make music like that you get pigeonholed the same way people on here do Kendrick because of albums like TPAB.
That being said I’m not expecting every rapper to drop a verse centered around current events. It would be dope but unfortunately I think people would move past it.
Also most if not all of the artist making “revolutionary” music weren’t mainstream. It’s really one ina few that break through in that way
now we talking. If that’s the case then Jhené on the intro of OD and SZA on All the Stars. Nigga made the wrong comparison and now he quiet
BJ the Chicago kid too.. and I mean shoutout to TFE and Black Hippy, Jay Rock def broke the doors down to get them in. But Kendrick’s ascension 100% helped the careers of Q, Soul, and TDE as a whole
