It doesn’t need to be a big 3 but hip hops always had its top tier artists that the rest looked up to and knew they couldn’t f*** with on wax

Realistically who could hold the game down after this current era

We don’t need boss fights or hierarchy . When most of these people aren’t battle rappers . I appreciate being able to produce , do other genres or being talented more than them being consumed by being the best

    Nipsey was dope for that

We need mentors more than we need people being the best self proclaimed by fans or journalists

Cause it just breeds jealousy resentment and death

Nah not just you dude I don’t really f*** with gambling either

My boys used to try to drag me to the casinos a few years ago but it never really appealed to me

going to a casino with your boys in certain cases can actually be mad fun. take a couple shots, play around with $100 bucks, see a show, get dinner, sit at the slots to get free drinks etc. I totally get the aversion, especially when you know people who gamble religiously, but if you treat it like the circus, expect to lose a few bucks, and go with the homies, it can be a vibe.

I once went to the casino with some friends, we sat at a blackjack table and watched a Mom coach her 18 year old son into losing $300 dollars in less than 30 minutes. The son flipped out, started cussing out his Mother and stormed out the casino. Hilarious stuff. That's the s*** you can look forward to if you visit your local casino

I see what you’re saying brother but competition has always been at the heart of hip hop

Rap cyphers at the park or the block before it was easy to upload music to the internet

    Graph writers tagging rivals bombs

    Break battles

The cream rises to the top and dudes are trying to be the ones

All of this is art and the product of competition is better art

All doable without violence as well

Rap isn’t the only expression of hip hop. We have local break and dance crews that battle and it’s all love.

Also, not all rap sub genres are violent. You think when Blackthought hops on a track with someone he’s not trying to outdo everyone

I don’t believe Cole vs Kendrick would have ended in violence but that is the only exception to the rule.

I don’t think it’s really possible for rap battles to stay peaceful these days. Too much is at stake and you can’t win without crossing certain lines.

Cole bowing out was both a gift and a curse

I liked the Hoover show and had friends from a non profit who were flown out by ye to help inform people about the prison system and how people deserve more chances which I tend to agree with besides pedophiles and serial rapist

But there are black people who say Hoover should be locked up for life

I can’t help but feel the cia won when I see what people argue over and focus on

Ye used to be refreshing because he would call out the industry and media with undeniable concepts which as Lupe put it called out our own hypocrisy

Nipsey too. Now like Lupe I find myself less inclined to listen to rap schoolboy and Vince dropped great projects this year as did paak but people focus on and want the hate end who sells it to us white people with life insurance policies so a dolph gets shot while buying cookies we say that’s time it halkens again d**** too

Young thug still on trial and we can’t unite got anything but awards To Argue streams to argue a Super Bowl

    So the youth doomed

We not going thought provoking raps is what I’m getting at

There were tons of intellectual, freedom fighter conscious rappers but the labels made them uncool for kids to listen to around the early 2000s. Lupe tried to breath life into that movement but it didn’t catch on as heavily as many of us wanted

There was a distinct lineage of positive rappers from Zulu Nation -> Native Tongues -> Soulquarians and should’ve kept going but the bloodline was cut there. You can thank Lyor and execs like him for that
