yes, but there is clearly some plan behind the scenes to turn her into a star, which does mean appealing to those easily influenced by "nonsense."

and truthfully no matter how big she was the grammy came at the worst time in her career.

but there is clearly some plan behind the scenes to turn her into a sta

And that plan is called “Her Label Marketing Her”

yes. and my original comment was critiquing how they were doing so.

You havent even heard the project and you're talking like a wannabe A&R man, I'm glad she makes weirdos uncomfortable, because there's a clear timeline of her working on music and building her fan base for anybody who wants to even do a little bit of research

We got real plants like 2hollis out here and you're clutching your pearls over a woman who has been working her ass off because she won a best rap album grammy

    No it didn’t lol

Her label campaigned for her to win a Grammy and she won it. Where’s the problem?

i think what the success of the metro album implies is that people still want to listen to future 21 travis etc, but they need some sort of guarantee of their quality. or maybe that metro is the main attraction.

or maybe it just has a few hit songs.

    Metro made Without Warning pop

interesting take. do you mean in a name-brand sense people listening because of metro's name or because the production was so good that it popped.

I would have said in 2017 Offset was still the biggest name involved, but maybe I would be wrong.

On the subject, I've never thought about the mutually beneficial nature of Metro and 21's collaborations. it's such an obvious thing to do, but i've always viewed their success in a vaccuum.

like in 2016 i remember metro already feeling like a known quantity, but his first tape with 21 was important for 21 (obviously) but also establishing how a metro collab album with his name attached could help.

Without Warning boosted all parties involved and was probably the moment where it was guaranteed 21 wasn't going to be a 1-2 year wonder.

in 2018, Metro's solo album showed off 21's charismatic personality which in turn drew in more listeners to the album. idk if the album is as well liked without 21's contributions, and idk if 21 becomes the star he did in 2019 without those songs. people really like them.

i'm talking like a "wannabe a&r" in the sales thread. the place where we talk about commercial success. if i wanted to talk about how the doechii album sounded i'd post in the doechii thread.

also, i never called doechii an industry plant.

this is like talking to a brick wall. i think it's impossible to introduce nuance into this discussion when anything slightly negative about doechii ties into the some people's intrinsic need for anything within 2 degrees of kendrick lamar to be good and successful.

yeah, kendrick made some good songs and we all had some jokes at Drake's expense. that was a year and a half ago. maybe instead of posting for hours about how Drake sucks, you should investigate what insecurities make you have such vitriolic feelings towards a pop star

i'm talking like a "wannabe a&r" give me a break CRODIE. do you think any of this is real? the music industry exists to sell you a product. sorry that i want to pull back the curtain.

every single one of these rappers, kendrick, drake, j cole, etc, are selling you an image. none of this is real, these people as you know them are no different than brands. this isn't the avengers.

if you think this is real just go watch pro wrestling or something. idk.

I feel like actually listening to the music is like the bare minimum, she didn't just pop out yesterday and win awards, there's no agenda being pushed for some talentless artist, she's very talented, and her success is very well deserved

Nobody even brought up Kendrick or Drake but here you go crying about them, so pathetic and embarrassing

Try listening to the music and understand why its so successful right now instead of being a weirdo about it

Might be time to look in the mirror and realize why you're alone and going through hard times...crodie

You’re wasting your breath. These are the same people who spend all day posting in the billboard thread and then claim sales don’t matter when their favorite artist flops. They only care about numbers when it suits their narratives

Any sane person can tell that doecci is the closest thing to an industry plant rn. Her music quality and fanbase size is so distant from what they’re trying to portray. They chose the worst time for such an inorganic push when everyone’s attention is hyper-focused on bots, payola, n industry awards post Drake and Kendrick beef

I'm "alone" because I surrounded myself with a combination of fake friends (switched on me) and bad influences (I switched on them). I'm on tough times because I made bad decisions and America isn't a terribly forgiving place for that.

but that's my cross to bear. and eventually i will overcome that and take what i learned to be successful and happy in a more sustainable way. Meanwhile, you're going to be in every drake thread fighting a losing battle to convince everyone it's bad to listen to pop music.

hunched over a phone or computer, telling the world over and over again how Drake's playboy persona makes you insecure.

Don't care about your life story man, get a grip, I've never even mentioned Drakes "persona" so please organize your thoughts better, you're embarrassing yourself

  • one discussion i saw happening when i was lurking pre account was about if The Fate of Ophaelia was a hit. and as much as i loathe to say it, it is. i hear the song outside and on the radio. casual listeners definitely know and like it.

and the worst part? it's one of the best songs on radio right now. radio sucks in 2025

    edit: i mean 2026

I meant sonically. There's quite a bit of layering/texture throughout the album that made the already great performance from Offset to stand out even more.

great observation. i love the album's atmosphere. despite how much i listened to it when it came out but i often forget about it these days.

I wonder if any Drake albums will re-enter the Billboard 200 this week as a result
