Niggas talking like Drake is supposed to STILL be carrying the game. He's done more than enough. The rap game wanted him out and they got what they wanted.

It's Kendrick's time now to run things.

Nobody expected 40 year old Kendrick Lamar to “run” the rap game because he won a beef

This is like if niggas expected Steph Curry to “run the league” in the 2020s after he won the chip in 2022

    Y’all sound crazy

Fine, I agree. Then stop bringing Drake up or suggesting he has some role to play in keeping mainstream rap relevant. That's not his concern anymore.

I’m only bringing him up because you are bringing up Kendrick. As if it’s his fault for there being no rap songs on the chart when he hasn’t even dropped music this year

hes been kicked out the culture hes not a real rapper hes a culture vulture canadian why would it he be responsible for carrying the entire genre on his back anymore ?

That's all I'm asking lmao. I don't even give a f***. I'll still listen to my favorite rappers but folks just need to stop bringing Drake's name in this particular conversation is all I'm saying.

I don't know why you keep posting s*** like this. Drake isn't the King of rap anymore. It's not on him to help or carry the genre anymore. That's on Kendrick. Stop expecting Drake to carry the same genre that spent the last 18 months trying to kick him out.

If you wanna see rap flourish again on the charts, tell Kendrick to drop again and give us some more hits.

    they coping

I already said he wasn't the source but the beef didn't help because it was poorly timed.

  • Gosh

Why is Kendrick being burdened with the responsibility to carry mainstream rap out of nowhere? Just because he won a rap battle?

It's not like people were pressing Drake to continue carrying hip-hop either

It's this stupid narrative they're trying to make up.

Kendrick didn’t start the beef. He responded to someone dissing him

Drake never carried rap. No one rapper has ever carried rap. You don’t actually like hip hop if you think like this

    We in the BB thread
Saying Drake never carried commercial rap is the same as saying Taylor isn't currently carrying comercial pop (laughable)

Nah, Drake never carried rap. Just agree with dude. No need to go back and forth.

As long as nobody brings Drake up as someone who needs to ever do something for mainstream rap or its current state, we're good.

i see the beef's impact as irrelevant to the equation altogether. drake is still the #1 or #2 guy, just in a severely diminished capacity, and that'd be true regardless of if the beef happened or not.

FATD was already an early indicator of the direction things were headed, it had one song with decent staying power and it wasn't even as big as nokia was this year.

  • Oct 29, 2025

Hip-hop was in better shape when Drake's mickey mouse hits were charting apparently. Because rap = Drake

Saying Drake carried rap implies that the genre would’ve been dead without him

He was just the most popular rapper. That doesn’t mean he carried the genre.

Did Eminem carry rap in 2000?

Did 50 carry rap in 2003?

Did Kanye carry rap in 2007?

Did Wayne carry rap in 2008?

No, but they were all the most commercially successful rappers of all of those years.

Saying they “carried” the genre is just completely disrespectful and dismissive to other rappers that were also successful at the time.

In the 2010s Kendrick, Cole, Kanye, Future, Nicki, Travis Scott, the Migos, etc. all were greatly successful

I do wish Kendrick just said f*** it and did an onslaught of drops ie 2014 Drake. Just keep mfs reminded that just cause you doing this and that and you ain’t doing a rollout that you run this s***. So yeah you could “say” it was Kendrick’s fault, but more for neglect as the American king rather than an automatic loss in relevancy for the simple fact that Kendrick is the American king like I see being alluded to. That’s bad faith but yes Kendrick neglected to effectively remind people he is the current American king of rap in 2025

That’s the thing they’re not getting.

At worst, Drake is the second most popular rapper in the world right now, and the genre is STILL struggling commercially. That’s the problem
