You can't even buy the songs
Scummy af to block the purchase of individual songs

You know what tho? Not even on no Swiftie s*** rn but it’s a general topic I’ve thought about for a while now
The idea that the individual availability of songs is pragmatically the biggest detriment to getting people fully onboard with albums as a medium. Are songs truly the culprit? Songs make albums unique as an entertainment format in that they’re inherently arbitrary - in a way that TV seasons and movies aren’t. I don’t “have to” listen to an entire album, but I’m also not able to select every scene exactly on streaming and just watch them individually. Ofc that’s if you’re gonna compare albums and movies of which I don’t agree with, but just to entertain the comparison rq
Anyhow she’s probably being scummy in this instance but just this idea in general of no individual songs

The album has always been an immensely unique format in that it’s basically the only major format in any major medium where it’s a long body of work that is just comprised of multiple short pieces. Most albums are not narrative-driven, which makes it easy for the listener to jump in and out as they please, but an overall thematic cohesion is still expected for an album to great.
This is wholly unlike films, television, and books, all of which are driven by narrative, as well as video games. Even though there are video games that are not centered around a narrative, these still feature level-based systems in which one level must be beaten in order to progress to the next.
Albums exist in their own space, one where the collectiveness of the work is solely dependent on the intention of the listener.
What Taylor is doing is definitely interesting on paper, but when you realize the album is available in full on streaming services you realize that her intentions are purely commercially driven. If there were truly a motive rooted in artistic merit, then she would’ve made the album unavailable on streaming altogether, forcing any potential listener to engage with the piece as one complete body of work
I wonder if we’ll ever see a major commercial artist release an “album” that is just one long track on streaming services, but separated on physical copies
LMAOOOO

Lose Control having 2 years in the Hot 100 is insane
It would have spent 3 years if Billboard didn't update their recurrency rules.

The crazy thing is those songs are just hanging in there with 100 points + high radio points, so they’re not even getting streamed much lol
Showgirl retains 8/10 on week2:
Taylor Swift - The Fate of Ophelia (=)
Taylor Swift - Opalite (=)
HUNTR/X - Golden (+10)
Alex Warren - Ordinary (+10)
Taylor Swift - Elizabeth Taylor (-2)
Taylor Swift - Father Figure (-2)
Taylor Swift - Wi$h Li$t (-1)
Taylor Swift - Wood (-3)
Taylor Swift - Eldest Daughter (=)
Taylor Swift - Cancelled! (=)
A week after Taylor Swift monopolized the top 12 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 — all from her new album, The Life of a Showgirl — the superstar now scores eight of the top 10, while all 12 songs from the set rank in the chart’s top 14.
Finally. F***.
https://twitter.com/chartdata/status/1980329417793831214#10 after 52 weeks looks a little bit too strict tho aint it? Should be like 15-20. There are plenty of songs still doing decently streams and radio wise to earn a slow and steady 11-15th place run after 52 weeks.
And also unfair to songs at like 7-10th place that will get washed out by an album bomb when it’s actually doing ok streams wise and can still rack up many more weeks of top10 after the bomb
