You’re trying to use my words against me but I never said Kendrick was more popular than Drake.

Drake is more popular, most people think Kendrick won the beef. Both statements can be true

if drake's more popular doesn't that mean he's better than kendrick since we now care what other people think

It means more people listen to his music. It doesn’t mean he’s a better rapper.

Vanilla ice sold more than illmatic, did he rap better than Nas on that? No.

Public opinion decides who won a rap battle.

Nas beat Jay Z because he won in the court of public opinion.

That doesn’t mean you can’t think Takeover was better than Ether.

got it, public opinion decides what you want to it decide in the moment. very consistent thinking right there that should be taken seriously

    Yeah

Drake and Kendrick have dropped within consecutive months of each other four separate times.

For context, Cole has never dropped in a consecutive month as neither Drake nor Kendrick.

    That CANNOT be a coincidence

How many times did Drake win out of those four?

    Exactly.

Despite luther being #1 for 13 straight weeks, it never really felt like it had the world by storm. You also have to mention that it was #1 in a year when the Hot 100 was historically weak, so there’s that factor as well

    True.

When Humble came out, I hated that song because I heard it I heard it in whips, malls, commercials, Youtube ads, parties, college campuses, cookouts, etc. in the summer/fall of 2017. It was inescapable and my least favorite track off of DAMN.

Luther is a track I know because I listened to GNX when it dropped. But a lot of casuals I know don't really know the song that well. You kind of have to be "locked in" to music to know how huge it is.

That's how the music industry is rn though across the board. "Ordinary" was called the "song of the summer" and I don't know a soul who played it lol.

You’re trying to compare rap battles to regular music.

Rap battles/clashes are judged on the audiences response.

Albums aren’t a head to head art form. It’s a totally different medium. That’s why battle rappers don’t really make it as artists

That’s the core problem with this discussion. You don’t understand hip hop culture

I didn’t move any goal posts. I’m explaining to you the difference between a rap battle and regular music. Why do you think there’s a distinction between a diss record and a regular record.

The only reason I brought up hip hop culture is because the fact that we even have to have this discussion shows me you’re an outsider to it.

And again with putting it in quotations. Is hip hop not a culture to you?

i mean he is lol you cherrypicking when he is and when he isnt doesnt diminish his talent

i guess i assumed we're holding him to a certain standard but its cool. if drake wrote that and someone told me its a diss, i would side eye them because drake would've added several layers or hints to it if it was directed at a particular person. same with kendrick. i naturally assume its him doing the moral savior complex thing because he would've layered it better as a diss
