13/25 songs he made billion streams on Spotify are pop songs??

    One Dance
    Passionfruit
    Work
    Hotline Bling
    In My Feelings
    MIA
    Nice For What
    No Guidance
    Hold, On We're Going Home
    Toosie Slide
    Too Good
    WAIT FOR U
    Fake Love

Divine and them are disingenuous when they speak about stuff like this because they use the broad term “rap” without acknowledging that some rap is made for commercial appeal and some is not, just like any other genre

Yall skipped over my original point to make some statement about drake and pop music

    But to reiterate

Kendrick: 100% totally universally considered a rapper, with rap hits, and rarely ever does pop music

Drake: probably most people would call a rapper but would undoubtably know him best for his pop songs

So when the beef started, most of drakes pop audience probably fell away or didnt care... but kendricks were in full force

  • Aug 15, 2025

Notice how none of the songs she named are the “lyrical Drake” rap songs where he goes for three minutes with no hook. Divine knows the difference she’s just being obtuse

    Drake's pop hits:
    What's My Name
    Find Your Love
    Take Care
    Hotline Bling
    Hold On, We're Going Home
    Work
    One Dance
    Controlla
    Too Good

That's about it. The rest of his hits are either straight rap songs, melodic rap songs or rap songs with an R&B tinge. How does that make most of his hits pop songs?

They're all hits. Smash hits aren't the only kind of hits that exist.

    • Daisies: holding strong
    • Abracadabra: DWAS still killing s*** & the hook on Abracadabra is not strong, sounds too much like a recreation of her initial sound
    • The Subway: great attempt at a hit, no notes
    • Manchild: holding strong
    • Outside: we’ve heard this song 84 times
    • The Giver: Idk if her fans necessarily wanna hear this much of a Country-tinged sound from her
    • DTMF: For a song that was buried in its’ album’s tracklist, it did okay on the Hot 100 overall, lasting 20 weeks. Keep in mind Bad Bunny’s never had a lead credit song spend more than 28 weeks on the chart, it’s not easy for an all-Spanish song to last super long there
    • Ring Ring Ring: Badly written for broad commercial appeal, plus people think it’s a NOKIA clone for some reason
    • Twilight Zone: Good attempt at a hit, but it also sounds like a pretty standard Ariana track

Manchild is doing 123 points in its 10th week.

Espresso & Please Please were doing 200+ points in their 10th weeks.

So do you think she lost 50% of her consumers this past year or that streaming consumption has changed entirely for 2025 releases?

Also it’s crazy to now see @fader saying songs doing 120 points are “holding strong” while he took every opportunity to s*** on NOKIA for doing 200 points at the same point in its run

You only apply this logic to Drake. There are songs on Mr. Morale with more streams than some of the songs you named
