every single song features an artist from ATL and the mixtape is an ode to 2008-2012 ATL so…what would that be twin?
It's a rap album
surprise dance album
When you consider the context, it actually did great numbers
Don't know why users on here are pretending Don't Tap the Glass should've sold 400k fw
It's a rap album
that is dedicated to the sound of ATL which has more than just traditional rap sounds…they even created a new category called melodic rap because of the influence of the sound of the era lmfao. so calling it a mixtape of ATL sounds is not a bad take. salute
20k for a metro booming album is a flop. No amount of "niche regional mixtape" excuse changes that!
That midget genuinely ruined rap music
Shut the f*** up. Lil Uzi did nothing wrong
the project you are holding him to the fire for features
J Money, Travis Porter, Young Dro, Gucci Mane, Roscoe Dash, Quavo, Breskii, YKNiece, Skooly, Shad da God, Waka Flocka Flame, BunnaB, Meany, Jose Guapo, Rocko, Yung Booke, 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Lil Baby, T.I., 21 Savage, Future, and Yung L.A.
so off rip, it’s not comparable to Khaled because the project is immediately regionalized to a specific sound, barring most from even enjoying the types of projects that he and Khaled typically produce that bring different artists and their sounds together
with that said, the album also didn’t list any features so not only was it a very niche album, it also had people guessing who was on what track. you might know Quavo, Future, Thug, 21, 2 Chainz, TI and Savage in the modern rap climate, but all these artists were UNLISTED on disc 2 of a niche regionalized mixtape with 3 weeks of promo 😂
again, like I been said, ya’ll got it lmfao. you just don’t like Metro and hold him to a standard you’ve never held any other producer before, less than 12 months after he produced 2 #1 rap albums
this was just something for ATL
All you're doing is coping.
He tapped in with every relevant Atlanta rapper over the last 20 years, many of which are still mainstream staples today.
He chose not to list the features so I don't know how that's being used as an excuse here?
He chose not to properly promote the album so how is that being used as another excuse?
And you lastly, you wouldn't be saying any of this if the album was actually successful so miss me with all this s***. By every conceivable commercial metric, the album flopped and that's OKAY. I even said that he's fine and will be back to scoring his usual #1 albums in no time.
He can still count this as a win for himself, if only because he executed his vision and made the album he wanted to make, which should be the first true achievement for any creative. That's all good and fine. But you're not going to spin any sort of cope that convinces me or anyone else here that doing 20k units first week with a 24-track project, stacked with features from all the major Atlanta rappers over the last 2 decades isn't a flop. Have a good day.
F*** what anyone says
A mixtape paying homage to old atlanta sounds, with the backbone of the feats being
Young Dro, Roscoe Dash and Waka Flocka Flame in 2025
Selling 20k is fine
Tell Metro that because he's been crying on Twitter ever since people started saving they were f***ing with the tape and the projections dropped. He can get a win from him making the tape he wanted to make but that doesn't make the tape a commercial success. It's a massive flop.
i vividly remember platinum trophies for 1M downloads and gold trophies for 100k milestones, what you mean? lol
the mixtapes were ranked by most popular based off the trophies 😂 Meek, Wiz and Wayne had top 3
you chatting, it’s okay lmfao
B**** I just said DOWNLOADS
THOSE AWARDS COME FROM DOWNLOADS
YOU TALKING SPICY B**** I WAS ON UR SIDE U DOT GURGLING DUMBASS
It’s your people hyper focusing on his sales, they literally want everyone but Drake to fail, that’s really what’s killin discourse
Shut the f*** up man
Remember when they tried to say it wasn’t supposed to do well because it’s a “therapy album”
The album had 19 songs and more than a handful of slappers on it that should have easily carried it to a 350-400k debut, especially because it was his first album in 5 years and has a s*** ton of hype going into its release.
I just don't like when goalposts start getting moved, that's all lol.
Also let’s just call a spade a spade
The album had a mainstream big budget roll out (the event in nyc was insane how much they renovated the skating rink, plus had a merch pop up, and they’re doing a block party in ATL which will probably be huge and I think they may be going to LA. They flew out everyone from the album to nyc too, basically what I’m saying is a huge budget went into this for a very niche sounding album (miracle imo) it’s “technically” a flop because metro is the most prolific and recognizable producer of our time but in reality this is just as if a datpiff tape was released by a major label. There’s nothing wrong with 20k, I’m probably 10 of the K.
What the problem is is that yall niggas been on Drake head brah like won’t get off that s*** over sales. Whether it be the concerts, albums, all that brah whatever yall can do to put a chunk in the armor that’s why all these dumbass Drake fans that didn’t grow up on any of this (I doubt most of you bots grew up futuristic either) are s***ting on it. Drake isn’t really flopping, metro didn’t flop, no one is flopping rn brah can we just enjoy da music man

Man shut the f*** up before I smack u and that valentine b****
Chill lmao i'm cool with this Metro album selling however much because i still f*** with it regardless of those numbers
regardless of how much you think the metro mixtape should have sold, i think everyone can agree that it is only a byproduct of the overall music environment and the fact that rap has never been in such a horrendous place commercially. besides kendrick and clipse nobody overperforms anymore, they only underperform.
Kendrick and Clipse didn't overperform. Kendrick was primed to have a massive album era following the beef. He just had to make music that translated in that way and made it easier for the success to come through. Clipse had the hype of a 16-year comeback album, they also ran a massive promotional campaign but most importantly, the music on their album was good and translated to their audience.
Rap albums can still be successful, they just need to be good enough to work for their intended audiences and also, being properly promoted doesn't hurt.
