You might be referring to how albums are categorised for awards and that's likely out of the power of artists because Drake has also complained about Hotline Bling winning rap category awards at the Grammys.
You actually do decide how your albums/songs get categorised on DSPs. Some DSPs might recategorize your album for you if you use a genre that's not in their system but that's about it.
it’s very well known that artists have no say in their projects once its leaves their hands and things can change, otherwise they would have literally had the album literally released in the category they intended to win within and not said what they said on stage about being placed in that category
Day 2 on Spotify should be stronger than day 1 because day 2 will be a full day.
Also, not true. The hype for CHROMAKOPIA was way, way higher than for the album, and its second day Global Total (68M) was 18M less than its first day (86M).
Don’t Tap the Glass both didn’t have the same amount of hype nor is it receiving the same level of praise, I think its second day number will be much lower than its 46M first day Global Total.
It’s not a GNX situation where its mid-day release was a complete surprise so that explained the big jump from its 1st to 2nd Day stream total
Overestimate the opps sales so when they do under that it's a flop
its so obvious, i almost respect the troll to continue for this long
but its also close to reaching troy ave stan levels of overstaying its troll

Third untrue post in a row, you’re on a roll today.
Do some artists have control of how their work is categorized on DSPs? Yes. But is that control exercised all of the time? No.
If it was, then One Dance wouldn’t still be categorized as Hip-Hop/Rap to this very day.
Ohhh, so "major drop off in week 2" type beat?
For this album, I could unfortunately see that being the case. Doesn’t seem like the type of album that people will be returning to
it’s very well known that artists have no say in their projects once its leaves their hands and things can change, otherwise they would have literally had the album literally released in the category they intended to win within and not said what they said on stage about being placed in that category
And I'm saying while that's true for award categories, it isn't the true for genre categorisation on DSPs.
That's why Drake, a primarily rap artist, has albums tagged as Dance, R&B/Soul and Hip-Hop/Rap albums.
That's why Taylor Swift, a primarily pop artist, has albums tagged as Pop, Country and Alternative albums.
On DSPs, you can categorise your albums whatever you want.

So why is One Dance categorized as a rap song?

you are talking about individual song tags
I’m talking about the album category. Drake probably has the right to do it because he licenses his music to UMG, but Tyler’s music is released by Columbia records. they decide

Exactly. Artists like Drake and Taylor most likely have been granted the right to control that in their newer contracts, but earlier in their careers they did not exercise that same right. Tyler is probably in a similar position now with Columbia

No, I'm not. If you're uploading an entire EP/album on DSPs, every song has to be under the same genre category for sorting purposes. That's what I'm talking about.
If Tyler wanted DTTG tagged as a dance album on DSPs, all he had to do was tell his label. Why would his label give a damn what it's categorised as? All they care about is making money from it.

why do you keep saying they can categorize it however they want? where are you getting these facts from?
the artists aren’t the ones with a relationship with DSPs, unless again, you are in a licensing your music to a major situation, from my understanding. outside of that’s, its between your label and the distributor once you submit it regardless of what you say the category you want it in because it’s their product at the end of the day and they gonna release it where they see fit

Loud and wrong. One Dance must be a rap song to you
i just wish DSP’s offered the ability to categorise dance albums as surprise ones
It's interesting to know that a Kendrick Lamar feature can move the needle for a rap duo who has been inactive for 16 years but a Drake feature can't for someone like Smiley

Always a treat to see how little the salesposters know about music outside of spreadsheets

One is on a Kanye album. The other is on a clipse album
Why would he get clowned for a label compilation album? Nobody views this as an actual Travis album
