They're the only ones you can look to for accurate numbers in every music market across the globe. That's like saying the RIAA is racist.
RIAA is completely different?... but anyway the methodology that includes them weighing Latin streams less is public. Here's a little write up on their inconsistencies if you're interested

I believe they fixed a lot of their errors in time for their 2021 figures.

WarriorNobody cares about certifications. We're talking about popularity. If a list is ranking artists throughout the year, but their rank depends on the value of each stream, then that is not a true indicator of popularity, and moreso an indicator of money generated for each artist.
A list that ranks artist purely based of number of streams (like the Spotify data) is the most relevant for showing popularity. Just because 1 million BTS stans buy 6 albums each and loop the album 24/7, it doesn't mean they are more popular than bad Bunny getting streamed by 5 million free Spotify users. (Ik BTS is one of the biggest artists in the world, I'm just giving numbers to show my point)
