nobody cares about visuals. people do multitasking now and can't focus on one single thing
Yeah white teenagers don’t.
We who care about soulful music do.
nobody cares about visuals. people do multitasking now and can't focus on one single thing
Nobody cares about visuals yet the US just had an attack over not using TikTok for 12 hours
And no you cannot isolate “visuals” to music videos cause that’s not how this or my argument works culturally speaking
Streaming is built anti-visually and most people listen to music via streaming, the effect of not watching music videos is a result of THAT, not some intrinsic apathy towards music videos amongst people nowadays
s/o all my boricuas its time
Remember: when music videos were booming on YouTube it was also because A LOT OF THE GENERAL WESTERN POPULACE was listening to music on a simple click and play basis through YouTube, and a lot of the time, through watching those videos. Much of those people went to streaming cause it was the most convenient on a simple click and play basis
Now I do think this trickled into a sort of “artistic depression” in regards to mainstream efforts towards the music video experience, and while that may lend to some greater cultural disenchantment with watching music videos, this is much less of the cause for the decline in the cultural popularity of music videos
Major labels need to just merge the social media experience with the music streaming experience. F*** it, launch a streaming service on a social media app so that the listening experience can be the ideal audiovisual experience that music listening should be in the current age. I’m talking it has a TikTok/reels/shorts type display of songs in an album.
You can do album mode or music video mode and have the lyrics display on either, or just straight lyric mode. Album mode is just the cover, music video mode is album mode but the music video for every song with a music video, lyric mode is self explanatory - but you can choose a background color for the lyrics & . You can also do your own edits for cover art, have any mp4 you wanna play or any picture from your gallery for a playlist cover.
And weigh the streams - that only count from clicking play on the specific service - as much as Spotify and Apple streams. It’s imperative that it’s a streaming service on an existing social media platform and not something separate because the social discussion of music needs to right there around the corner. I think celeb discussion being separate from art discussion encourages the growing separation between celebrity and artist within music.
Or Spotify and Apple can just be smart and become the new TRL/106 with comment sections and an ability to make posts/threads with a choice to post a song or album, and the streams count with threads and posts too
Integrating music into an existing social media platform would devalue the artform even more than something like TikTok has.
Music should not be a “feature on an app”, it should always exist in its’ own space.
What you’re suggesting would make more sense in the inverse; where existing streaming platforms created new features to make listening to music a more social and communal experience in the age of social media

That’s what the “Or” section is at the end, it’s my pitch IF Spotify and Apple don’t do that
And TikTok has not devalued the art form, that’s resentful oldhead nonsense that shouldn’t lead any logic in this discussion whatsoever

In a sense it has though. There’s never been a time in history where a song can blow up because of a literal 10 second section of said song. It’s also had actual effects on how the music industry operates as well. We’ve never seen that with a social media app.
I think younger generations interact with and appreciate music on a much different level than previous generations mostly because of what TikTok is

Based on projections he was going to miss it by a point or two. Not sure if final numbers are out.

How did he do so much in his 2nd week compared to the 1st week?
First week was released on a Sunday so only 4.5 days of tracking and the album has had one of the most organic growths since release.
very very impressed with bad bunny
Dude might lowkey have AOTY already even though he won't get the proper recognition.
