i was interested in it more from a cultural angle than a sales one but it's interesting in both cases
Kendrick in general does really well in Africa (Especially Ghana/SA/Nigeria) . He has toured there and maybe that's a driving factor. Rest of the world isn't engrained in hip hop culturally. They see it as no different from other genres and just as music.
The value of culture a long with music is primarily an american thing because it requires larger context imo than just the music by itself. It's fading away though.
The media agendas are so obvious its comical atp.
There are numerous artists who have discrepancies in their USA vs. Global Spotify stats this year:
Singling out The Weeknd is definitely a choice
Weeknd is the only artist in that list which makes US centric music
Did Sabrina carpenter just start making music or is that espresso song the reason I now know of her
She been in the game
Just popped
Weeknd is the only artist in that list which makes US centric music
Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande don’t make US centric music?
Or are you considering them pop because they’re white and think Weeknd isn’t pop because he’s black?

Weeknd’s last two albums have a combined total of two features
All of these words and goalpost moving for the obvious reality: you hate The Weeknd no matter what and can’t fathom how people listen to him en masse

wonder what happened to them
does anyone know if NLU was big outside the US?
nope the rest of the world didn’t care about the beef
Weeknd’s last two albums have a combined total of two features
Are you really trying to say that Weeknd hasn't always constantly collab with US artists lol
he has more collabs with US artists than any other pop star by far
the biggest song of his new album is a collab with a mumble rapper
with AH, out of the 3 #1s, 2 of them were collabs with US artists too

If that’s the case every single Billie song is a “collab” with a US artist because her brother produced them

Eh
Metro positions himself as an artist type of act
Not really the same with Finneas
