Realistically i don't think it being a surprise drop had too much impact on its numbers. The boost he gain from the beef and how visible he was this year offsets whatever decline a surprise drop would of gave him.

He still loss some sales due to when it dropped tho. So I think post beef his new range is in 300 to 350k

So are the numbers pumped or not?

Drake stans taking this as a victory when we haven’t even seen Drakes post-beef numbers yet lol.

Wait until his next bloated 25 track album only does 300k

Drake has 11 projects that have debuted with at least 375k units. Kendrick only has 1 project that's ever done at least that.

Drake is solidified if he never does massive numbers again. His reign of dominance is unmatched. Kendrick's numbers are being scrutinized because y'all spent all summer insisting he was now the #1 rapper in the world and had magically gained all these new fans because of the beef and that his next album would reflect that but the next album dropped and it might not even outdo Mr. Morale (which many people considered a flop, coming off DAMN).

His defenders know this but they'll rather be disingenuous. If the album was being projected to do 450-600k, they'd also find a way to validate why that is.

"12 track album. No press. No promo. Surprise release."

Anybody suggesting any of those things is being mad disingenuous.

#1. Cole's last 3 albums have each had 12 tracks so stop acting like niggas haven't dropped 12-track projects and put up massive numbers before.

#2. This album has been promoted since it dropped. Everything that happened this year was promo for the album.

#3. A surprise release shouldn't matter. Drake has done a handful of surprise releases before and the expectation was always that they would do massive numbers regardless because once the album drops, people would dial in.

This further establishes Kendrick as a 300M+ US streams artist. This will be his third straight album dropping and never reaching 350M US streams.

Oh and btw, the album has to finish the tracking week strong to debut with 291k. If the numbers over the next 3 days experience a significant drop, it might end up debuting with like 285k or something.

Cole’s last three albums first week numbers in streaming units:

    4YEO: 129K (177 million streams)
    KOD: 223K (323 million streams)
    The Off-Season: 245K (325 million streams)

None of these albums had record breaking streaming weeks, because they were all short albums.

Let them continue being disingenuous. He said he had the entire culture behind him. What better time for that culture to show up and support him but now? They had no issues supporting him when NLU dropped.

Also, nobody forced Kendrick to drop a 12-track album. He could have easily dropped 16 tracks but he chose 12 so stop coping for dude.

Why is Kendrick's album streaming the same as Off-Season? He had NLU and the craziest year of all time, right? I'm actually curious if there's any real reasons.

We just gotta accept that 300k is the ceiling for a 12 track album(no bundles)

His streams per song is massive.

and nobody forced the comparisons with them double albums but yall

  • Nov 26, 2024

With all of that being said, he'll still get a #1 album and at least 5 top 10 hits. Now an L but definitely not the major W many of you thought he'd have when his album dropped post-beef.

You cannot compare a 2021 release to a 2024 release.

325 million in 2021 is not the same as 321 million in 2024.

Case in point: J. Cole’s surprise project this year that only did 137 million streams first week
