This logic is very silly. You don't stop being a superstar because 1 album era didn't have mega hit singles or move a ton of units.

How many then? Drake has had 4 projects in a row (fatd, clb, herloss, hnvm) that didn't hit my "superstar" level

He can easily bring it back by making an album that's suited for the mainstream though, none of the above 4 tried to be mainstream friendly imo

The only superstars to me right now are
    Harry Styles
    Morgan
    Taylor

then weeknd, travis, drake, sza, coldplay etc are on the level below

You’ve lost the plot. Weeknd & Drake are absolutely both superstars.

    Drake’s 2018 is comparable to Weeknd’s 2020/2021.

Just because those guys are not at their commercial peaks anymore that doesn’t mean they aren’t still superstars

Cmon man lol Drake's 2018 was 2-3x bigger globally (the whole world) than Weeknd's 2020/2021.

& yeah to me when a superstar drops, the internet/world stops to listen. Weeknd/Drake don't fit that anymore imo.

Wait hold on… you’re meaning to say The Weeknd isn’t a superstar? LMAOOOOO this might be ur worst take yet, and that says a lot

Yeah I have a much higher standard for superstar. It just feels wrong to me to label early 2000s Eminem, 2000s Beyonce, 80s/90s MJ superstars & then say current age Weeknd/Drake are superstars. There's a very, very large gap there to me. Lets be honest lol. early 2000s eminem was probably 3x, 4x, 5x bigger than current FATD era Drake.

In Sports, in Hollywood and in Fashion, an individual/brand doesn't stop being major simply because a product/project they put out wasn't as successful as their most successful so why are you applying that logic to musicians?

Being a superstar transcends just the numbers you're able to put up with your projects. It refers to your overall pull, power and popularity within any given space.

For musicians, that doesn't simply end because you put out projects that aren't as successful as your most successful. Using the numbers an artist put up at their commercial peak as the expectation for everything they drop moving forward is dumb. No one stays at that height forever. It doesn't mean they still aren't superstars.

Drake has been the bestselling rapper every year since 2015 and has been a top 3 bestselling artist overall since then as well. He just went on a tour that's the biggest rap tour of all time and only had to play 80 shows to get there. He's been a top 10 consumed artist globally every year since 2015. Someone who isn't a superstar isn't doing that.

Going by your logic, the second an artist doesn't put up numbers that rival their biggest numbers, they stop being superstars. Even you have to see how dumb that logic is.

Seems like he's going by the "you're only as big as the last thing you did" philosophy, which is deeply flawed. There are like 10 legit active superstars in music right now and I rate people who have been successful for a really long time much higher than people who blew up 2-3 years ago because it's much harder to keep this s*** going over an extended period of time.

He can think whatever he wants. I just believe his logic is flawed.

I actually agree with you here. If we talking about true superstar runs I think Taylor now and Bad Bunny few years ago had it. I don’t even think Wallen fits that globally. He is a domestic superstar though.

Essentially what you’re saying is that 2009 Eminem wasn’t a superstar because he wasn’t as big as he was in the early 2000s.

That’s what makes absolutely no sense.

Once you reach that level, it’s not a “what have you done for me lately” kinda thing

i wouldn't say 2009, he still had the world in his palm, but 2014~ yeah I think he had lost his superstar status by then

It's not about the artist compared to their own peak, its about the artist compared to the current peak of the game. The goal of any musician is to have their music actually listened to, if you're failing at that with your new releases I don't see how you can be a superstar still, you've become a legacy act.

Coldplay/Ed Sheeran etc are in that bucket for sure, their new music literally gets less than 10% of the hype it used to get 10 years ago. Their tours are still huge because people are going to listen to music that they dropped over a decade ago.

It's also not about ur last album, but the last 2-3 for me

but again when I talk about this s*** I think I'm just comparing it too much to pre 2010 music, where these musicians were just far more popular than any of these current ones

He is absolutely still a superstar
