I think it’s because The Weeknd isn’t really famous as a celebrity at all. He’s never in the tabloids, no rumors about him, public life is virtually non-existent.
People are solely interested in him for the music, which is maybe why he’s able to score hits that chart years after their release and why he’s able to fill up stadiums worldwide.
Bruno Mars is sort of similar in that regard
neither was drake in his 2018 peak though, yet he still had everyone on their knees slurping up anything new
same with trav, like yeah sure he dated a jenner but I don't think that's really made him some crazy celeb
Idk man, 24kgoldn had 40m for a whole year because of mood, that was more than Uzi & Kendrick at the time
khalid has 53m monthly listeners & his career is basically dead now, s***s insane
1. He had one of the most popular songs that year, so you’re saying it does measure some metric of popularity
2. All of the artists in the Top 10 are established artists/icons who have been in that echelon for years. It’s not like Weeknd just jumped to #1 and fell off quickly, he’s been there for like two straight years if I recall correctly

Drake has always been extremely popular as a celebrity, always
And Travis is literally always doing collabs with some of the most high profile brands on the planet
Weeknd is usually MIA if he’s not in album mode or on tour

It measures popularity of their discog yeah, but not of the actual artist, that's the thing people don't get
and it's crazy flawed since 1 song in all the huge playlists just catapults you up massivey

honestly don't see how, he has never done celeb s***
what about trav?

We already discussed this here many times before and you keep using this dumb example
24kgoldn had more listeners because more people was listening to at least one of his songs at the time. 24kgoldn had a big hit and Kendrick wasn’t doing anything at the time. Simple as. Thats literally what monthly listeners means. Next.
Its not about who’s popular historically. Then, Michael Jackson and Beatles should be #1 and #2 forever
It measures popularity of their discog yeah, but not of the actual artist, that's the thing people don't get

It’s not flawed at all, it makes sense.
If you have one song that’s extremely popular, that means more unique accounts are listening to the song, hence your monthly listeners will go up. It’s really not as convoluted or meaningless as y’all try to make it out to be.
Monthly listeners = total unique accounts that listened to at least one of your songs that month
Total streams = the total number of streams in a one month period
You can have 10 people listening to one song of yours once each. That’s 10 monthlys and 10 streams.
But you can have 5 people listening to one song of yours five times each. That’s 5 monthlys and 25 streams.
It’s two different measuring sticks, they don’t have any effect on each other
Relatively normal album promo.
Travis does Supreme, McDonald’s, and PlayStation collabs on his off-years
Relatively normal album promo.

That's not normal lmao
He's a pop darling, brands love him, his music plays everywhere cause it's usually safe and he has been in tabloids and the media for his two public relationships

It’s very normal for pop artists to collab with brands when they have a new single or album coming out.
My point is that when Weeknd isn’t in promotion mode or touring, he’s off the grid.
The same cannot be said about Travis. He always has a new product or collab coming out
Congratulations, you're repeating my point back to me
Yes, that monthly listeners shows the artists’ number of unique listeners in the past month
Not sure why you keep whining about 24kgoldn having more listeners than Kendrick at some point years ago 💀
It’s not flawed at all, it makes sense.

which is exactly why using it to compare artists popularity is stupid
kendrick could have had 20m monthly listeners w/ an average of 50 streams each = 1b streams/month
24kgoldn could have had 40m monthly listeners w/ an avearge of 5 streams each = 200m streams/month
people were using this s*** to say J.I.D is a big rapper last year, cause he had like 30m listeners, meanwhile every time he releases something s*** goes triple cardboard
Congratulations, you're repeating my point back to me
Then you’re not really making a point? We’re telling you that the metric does measure something, and you’re saying it’s irrelevant because it doesn’t correlate with stream totals
Then you’re not really making a point? We’re telling you that the metric does measure something, and you’re saying it’s irrelevant because it doesn’t correlate with stream totals
Nah I'm saying you can't use it to measure how big an artist is, at all, but you 100% can with actual stream totals.

Bro
It’s a separate metric
It has no correlation or effect on stream totals
Do YouTube subscribers not matter either?

Yes you can because everyone in the top 10 is a superstar

no, they don't lol
youtube.com/@bigsean/videos is evidence of that
And at the end of the day, more people are listening to 24kgoldn than Kendrick
Like why is he trying to argue this
no, they don't lol

Aight you’re delusional

Sorry, but other artists are not dropping long albums every 6 months to finally beat Taylor when it comes to daily streams
Sorry, but monthly listeners is much more impressive stat than daily streams. Stop the cope
Bruno (him again, of course) reaching +100 million listeners with only one new song in almost 3 years and his last solo album being 8 year old is more impressive than Taylor having the most daily streams for years because she keep releasing slop every 6 months. She has dropped more songs in the past 2 years than him in 15 years, of course she gonna have more daily streams than him or Billie Eilish (also a very short discography)
This is something her stans on twitter can’t understand. They were always crying because Abel kept blocking her from #1, despite her having way more daily streams. Simple: despite her big ass discography with constantly new releases, more unique people were listening to The Weeknd (at least one his songs)
Now she’s not even top 3 :jordanlaff3:
