I never said it wasn’t?
The initial question was whether Graduation belongs in the tier with GRODT or the tier with Views & Carter 3.
It’s pretty obvious to me that it belongs in the former category
It fits with Views and Carter 3 to me, but to each their own
If Drake been selling 500k+ since he started idk why'd u think that shouldn't be the expectation for him
It's ridiculous to have those expectations for him 15 years into his career when he's closer to the end of his career than the beginning of it.
Yeah I know it’ll do well because of pure overall. I’m more focused on the streaming aspect of the album tho because it seems like hardly any albums have held up streaming wise this year. Only albums that have had some real longevity are that peso pluma and morgan wallen albums that I can think of
My current projection is 350-400M US streams.
It's ridiculous to have those expectations for him 15 years into his career when he's closer to the end of his career than the beginning of it.
How is it unrealistic
When he keeps selling that well consistently
He's the only anomaly
Even the fans like you always project he will do insane numbers everytime

Doesn’t really seem that achievable in the streaming era anymore unless you have months worth of preorders

I don’t see how at all lmao
One has a handful of mega-singles and is regarded as one of the greatest rap albums of all time, just like GRODT
The other two are high selling classics with maybe 1 or 2 smash singles on each

Graduation is not at GRODT level and Views has the same reach

It's just the brain damaged drake stans

How is Graduation not on GRODT level lmao
On every metric it’s performed better longevity wise.
It has just as many huge singles as GRODT does.
And the critical/fan reception was just as good if not better.
I just don’t see at all how you think that those two albums are on different levels of status
Doesn’t really seem that achievable in the streaming era anymore unless you have months worth of preorders
Drake sold like 600k with clb (2021)
And her loss did 400k and it's a Collab (2022)
Dogs just did 400k as well (2023)
He dropped bout 200k since his last solo but people were waiting for clb for awhile.
His next solo will either do 400k again or 500k if he comes with a hit

Graduation was not operating on the same playing field as GRODT in 2003. The difference between them is staggering

It's ridiculous when he's still having the biggest album debuts 15 years in and some people here jump in to call it a flop, an underperformance, etc. Him and Eminem are the two rap anomalies when it comes to commercial performance. No one else has their longevity in that regard.
Still, he's at the point in his career where people should be appreciating that he's still putting up massive numbers, not criticizing his numbers (that are bigger than everyone else's btw) and nitpicking at how/why it isn't bigger.
Him and Taylor Swift are the upper-echelon elite of their generation with regards to commercial performance. They've outdone every single one of their peers and are now only in competition with legends and all-time records. I don't compare them with anyone else, that's for sure.

His numbers are crazier because they're like 95% streaming.
If everyone keeps underperforming streaming wise does that mean we got to start lowering the expectations? Like maybe these type of numbers will just be the new norm going forward
bundle merchants like trav/taylor and the way the numbers are presented makes it harder than it looks to separate the expectations
but they should be lowered but you know how people get

Graduation released 9 years before streaming and is currently #49 in Top Streaming Albums on Billboard and is also the 20th highest streamed rap album of all time on Spotify, ahead of GRODT.
Gradutaion is also currently #62 on the Billboard 200, in its’ 268th week on the chart. GRODT is #172 on the same chart, in its’ 195th week.
If GRODT is actually the bigger album, why has it not done better numbers in the streaming era?

Because Kanye continued his career after 2007 and appeals to the younger generation
What does Thriller stream in this day and age? Grad is bigger than Thriller because of that?

The thing with Drake is
He's built up so much of a rep where he will always get play no matter what as long as the music isn't mysterious or massively different like HNVM or demo tapes was.
His core regardless
He will always sell above 300k
Even when he puts out horrible singles like way 2 sexy clb came thru with 600k
Even a very divisive single like slime
Got him 400k
Drake doesn't really need a smash anymore because he's Drake
As long as he puts out jack of all trades music he will stay in his anomaly bag
I wouldn't put em with Drake at all
Em selling less than 300k and that was in 2020
He's not hitting 300k + anymore unless he has a certified smash
But prob has a guaranteed 150k fanbase
Because Kanye continued his career after 2007 and appeals to the younger generation
What does Thriller stream in this day and age? Grad is bigger than Thriller because of that?
Thriller is currently #81 on the Billboard 200, 19 spots behind Graduation and 91 spots ahead of GRODT.
Graduation is the 91st highest streamed album ever on Spotify, with 4.7 billion streams.
GRODT is the 136th highest streamed album ever on Spotify, with 3.980 billion streams.
And Thriller, which came out 41 years ago, is the 139th highest streamed album ever on Spotify, with 3.948 billion streams.
Which leads me back to my original point, of Graduation, by every conceivable metric, being the closest thing we have to a Thriller in rap music.

Maybe, but i’m not expecting him to do 500k+ with streaming only ever again. The music industry is volatile asf, times have changed a lot since 2021. Even before FATD dropped I knew the album was gonna do Her Loss numbers just basing it off how the music climate has been this year

GRODT and Thriller streaming this closely to Grad just shows the power that they have, being that Kanye has had more time to continue his career in this day and age and further establish relevance
Please name me the 4 huge singles on Views.
Hotling Bling
One Dance
Controlla
Too Good
