Obviously Drake is gonna sell more than a guy who debuted in 2016. I thought it was clear I meant the drops from those years

This is a list of best-selling albums and their respective years of release (best-selling albums by total units are the ones with the yellow highlight and best-selling albums by pure sales are the ones in white).

Nah the Drake stans told me that he makes 20+ track albums to give us fans more music. It's not about the streams.

Reminder that a major studio album by Drake only sold 210k first week

Also, Scorpion's units pre-release were 1.1M RIAA units (God's Plan/Nice for What/I'm Upset), that's why it was able to be certified Platinum the day the album dropped.

The other 3.9M units it moved in 2018 were from after the album dropped so really, by the end of 2018, it had moved just over 5M RIAA units. In 2019, it moved an additional 1.25M units. In 2020, it moved an additional 825k units and in 2021, it moved an additional 620k units. So far this year, it has moved almost 300k units. That brings its total right now to about 7.98M RIAA units. It'll cross 8M RIAA units in a week or two.

Men lie, women lie….. numbers don’t. IFPI uses a global combination of album and single sales (not to be a d*** but that’s just way more valid than one man’s opinion)

IFPI use an algorithm which they wont even make public, it heavily favors artists that sell pures like Taylor & BTS. It's s***

Wait you actually unironically believe that Post Malone is the biggest artist in the world?

he was definitely close in 2019

beerbongs & bentleys + Hollywood's Bleeding were both as big as Scorpion & they dropped in back to back years

he has fallen off a lot since but the man has 2 top 5 most streamed albums on Spotify. He's insane

Billboard also favors pure sales. Same with RIAA. It's the way the music industry has operated up until about 8 years ago so it's not surprising.

It doesn't. chartdata's updates on the units albums have moved is based on Billboard's EAS which only counts the units for albums that charted on the Billboard 200 so that tweet saying Scorpion has now sold over 6.5M total units in the US doesn't include the 1.1M pre-release units. Add that and it brings its total to about 7.6M towards the end of November 2021. From then till now, it's sold almost 400k units. That's in line with my calculations.

    I guess that makes sense

Yeah, also, that's where Billboard and the RIAA differ from one another because the RIAA accounts for total sales/streams accumulated when certifying songs/albums. Billboard stops tracking an album/song once it falls out of the Billboard 200/Hot 100 but there are dozens of albums/songs not charting on the Billboard 200/Hot 100 which are moving units every week but just not enough to chart. The RIAA accounts for that while Billboard doesn't.
