Don’t make me post the pre streaming rules and post streaming rules Drake stats for y’all. Stay humble kings
Let me do it for you.
Drake's stats before streaming (2009-2014):
3 #1 albums
13 top 10 hits
6 top 5 hits
2 sold out arena tours
All more than any of his peers had at that time.

For Kendrick's sake, I hope that doesn't happen. This thread might get to 1,000 pages if that happens.
You made me go see what they saying on r/KendrickLamar. Someone made a whole post about how the album is a “masterpiece” but they’re not a fan of it. Wtf kind of delusion is that
Nah no way
Kendrick is, critically, the most overrated artist by far. You would think he had his own political party if he was that influential. If you removed the political bias these lib reviewers had he’d be more around an 8/10 - which is still great.
The one album that deserved all this crazy acclaim is GKMC. Section80 too

The album that deserved the Pulitzer: TPAB.
Kendrick album too weird for most tbh perfect hipster rap album tho. How much did TPAB sell? More comparable than DAMN. imo
What's weird about the album?

Absolutely nothing. They're finding new words to use as excuses every day.

Drake doninated pre streaming too lmao
Only thing holding him back was pop radio
Absolutely nothing. They're finding new words to use as excuses every day.
I'm just tryna figure it out
It's literally just DAMN with less catchy hooks and more talk about himself
That album archetype is literally a hip-hop staple aka not weird, experimental, or new

I agree. I wish once Kendrick got the committee validation he went the Drake route and made music we can play more than 3 times.
Let me do it for you.

0 #1 songs while making his best music to now he can literally drop Tootsie Slide and go #1. Wouldn’t be an issue if y’all weren’t comparing eras but I hear “he’s got more hits that the Beatles/MJ” etc. way too often around here lol we saw him in that era and he didn’t have a single #1 hit. He probably would’ve got one eventually but it’s still wild to remember lol tho I think he did get one as a feat for Rihanna no?
Not saying he wasn’t wildly successful, just not the numbers king he is now. Especially song wise. Not hating tho he’s got the game on lock over here. If streaming rules applied back then I’m sure I’m On One, Right Above It, HOWGH etc.. would’ve gone #1 for sure. Just think comparison can’t be made between eras anymore, numbers wise

They only call it weird because people are saying its bad lmao
What's weird about the album?
Bro did you listen to the intro? Cry Together? Crown? The piano interludes? Lol Nobody in rap making music like that cmon lol sounds like a Radiohead rap album ffs my rock friends have never liked a rap album so much

There is literally nothing about these beats that is experimental. Your also just regurgitating what you see others say about it being a Radiohead album

I get the argument about comparing eras but Drake was always that guy as far as his own era goes.
Best I Ever Had only failed to reach #1 because a generational smash hit (I Gotta Feeling) was #1 at the time and Best I Ever Had was a single from a free mixtape as an unsigned artist. Hotline Bling also only missed #1 because Abel released 2 remixes for The Hills while Drake sat and did nothing to boost his own song that week.
If we're talking hip-hop, Drake has always been #1 over all his peers since day #1. He's dominated in ways they never did and saw success they never saw till the streaming era became a thing.
Still, it doesn't mean you can't give him just due. There's a reason he's the most dominant artist in the streaming era. If doing what he does was easy, everyone would do it.
It's been 13 straighten years now of dominance. A never-before-seen thing in hip-hop history. Hate him or love him, you can't deny the run he's been on and is still on.

One person on this site made that radiohead beats claim and everybody running with it

That's all it is lol. It's actually a lot more melodic than DAMN on a lot of songs lol. Kendrick's rapping isn't even harsh on most of these songs and he's never used the sing-songy flow on any album as much as he did on this one.
The songs just aren't connecting with people this time around for some reason but it's definitely not because of the production. He even featured more prominent mainstream acts on the album this time around than ever before, so really, what's the excuse?
Bro did you listen to the intro? Cry Together? Crown? The piano interludes? Lol Nobody in rap making music like that cmon lol sounds like a Radiohead rap album ffs my rock friends have never liked a rap album so much
None of that makes it weird
YEEZUS was weird
And outside of regular hip hop listeners, people who barely listen to rap are Kendrick's biggest praisers so it doesn't surprise me your rock friends like the album lol
