TPAB?
To Pimp A Butterfly. Going from GKMC to that is way more polarizing than DAMN to MMBS. MMBS didn't feel polarizing or left field, just felt boring.

TPAB is the most left-field album Kendrick has ever made.
You asked the masses and they told you this personally?
Your literally insinuating the same thing about drakes album lmao, did you ask everyone what they expect when they listen to a drake album?

TPAB was more experimental/left field for sure - also a commercial disappointment when it dropped.
How are united in grief, worldwide steppers, mr. Morale, crown typical rap beats?
Is we cry together a normal rap song ? Are his use of song structure, flows, pitch of voice normal on there. How many rap songs bout sexual abuse or transgender rights do you know of ?
Like I said I before I dont think it's really all that left field, but it's just as left field as Drake's album especially after damn
No, it isn't.
Lmao why this unstickied suddenly?
We already have a numbers thread stickied. This one is just an insecure Drake stan thread disguised as sales.

I know what u mean but I'm saying what's the relevance of GKMC to TPAB to what I was saying in my post tho
If HN is considered experimental so is Dawn FM. You can’t pick and choose when to use the term lol

Going from 242k with GKMC to 324k with TPAB was a commercial disappointment?
No, people mocked the performance of Kendrick's album mostly because of the time he took away, his brags about rappers burning their hard drives, him smoking on top 5s and the general expectation his own fans had for whatever he returned with. People were really expecting dude to do 700k-1m with whatever he came with. That's the whole reason why I originally made this thread: I was trying to let people understand that thinking that way was setting dude up to fail because there'd be no way he'd be doing that. Anyone with any knowledge of how different the time in music in 2022 is in comparison to 2017, would have understood that. My OG projections for Kendrick were 350k and if not that fans didn't really f*** with the album, he'd have done around that.
When I heard Kendrick's album, not only did I know it wasn't for me, but I knew most of the fans he'd gotten from the DAMN. era wouldn't f*** with the album. My point was always that whenever an artist releases music their fans don't care for, those fans won't support said music, hence, said music will flop. That's always been my point. It's tons of mid music that's successful but the point is that the music is successful because enough people think it's good enough to support it. You really can't dispite that.
People mock the sales of this album because Drake always brags about his sales numbers, and his fans insisted a month ago that Drake would outsell Kendrick without any promo because he’s that much bigger. That has been proven false, and it is funny.
If HN is considered experimental so is Dawn FM. You can’t pick and choose when to use the term lol
Dawn FM is a continuation of After Hours. Even the Weeknd said so himself. It's songs off Dawn FM that'd fit perfectly on After Hours. What are you saying?
Nah. But you can tell yourself that though.
How is it not the same thing

Drake's last rap album easily outsold Kendrick's last rap album. What's false about that? This isn't a rap album.
I know what u mean but I'm saying what's the relevance of GKMC to TPAB to what I was saying in my post tho
I'm saying MMBS being 'left' field didn't seem to add up imo when he's done better with an album that leagues more unexpected and experimental.
Meanwhile HN is as far off base as Drake has gone. He's usually a consistent artist in the type of music he drops, even if the quality varies from project to project.
So saying MMBS is as left field for Kendrick as HN is for Drake, or that it's as left field in general imo is not correct. But I see your points in other comments so I will concede MMBS is not the traditional rap album.

Last. Album. His last album is not clb nor was clb a surprise
People forget, but Passionfruit flopped on the charts. It peaked at #8 and only spent 1 week in the top 10. Yes, it reached #1 on Urban/Rhythmic radio but by no means was it a chart hit. Most of the streams it ended up gaining happened after it had dropped off the Hot 100 lol. Signs? Flopped. Won't Be Late? Flopped. Every attempt Drake has made at a dance record in the last 5/6 years, have all flopped, yet people are surprised that an entire album of that sound isn't smasbing all the charts lol.
You say this and they'll say you're coping when it's just common sense.
now we saying passionfruit flopped
Copium levels rising
you haven’t proved me wrong and at least weeknd/drake albums were cool. that kendrick s*** worst album of the year
Going from 242k with GKMC to 324k with TPAB was a commercial disappointment?
Yeah, it was expected to do more before the rollout began and it became clear we were getting a left field album.
GKMC dropped and did the 242k before Kendrick had fully blown up. All he had in the mainstream at that point was Swimming Pools.
In the time between GKMC and TPAB, he had Poetic Justice, Maad city, BDKMV, his Control verse, etc etc. He had become a lot more known in the mainstream. Cole had just done 370k with a surprise album a few months prior, Drake did over 500k with a surprise album a month before as well.

mods need to make a new sales thread in general.
this thread just turned into someone spending their whole day arguing how drake didnt flop
