Not a lot of rappers take 5+ years between projects so kind of hard to compare

Dropped end of 2004. He never really left after the black album.And yeah, the second thing you said is kind of my point. There is no precedent for longer gaps = more sales in rap so saying that Kendrick should have sold more because he left for 5 years isn’t based on anything objective.

The fact is the general public are just not f***ing with the album. 86% drop in Spotify streams from Day 1 to Day 5. DLDT (which according to Drake Stans was a mixtape full of leaks everyone already heard) was streaming double at the same point.
Lowest selling album by anyone in the big 3 (since being established) ever. No cope can change that.

Issue with this year is that all elite rappers (200k+) bar Future have flopped which makes most charts look weird but in general this year has been full of sucessful histories
