What is up with other Kendrick stans having to tear down other great black artists when we praise Kendrick? Yall bring him up a lot for someone yall don't like

I thought Drake stans would be the toxic ones on here during this era but I guess not. How yall even think about Drake at a time like this is weird to me when new Kenny just dropped

That said on some real s*** as objective as I could be I think Mr. Morale on par with CLB both are classics. Drake and Kendrick aren't what they used to be but that's obvious for years at least their new albums are better than More Life and DAMN

Drake is too busy selling perfumes and shilling gambling sites. Kendrick is brain-storming new and inventive methods of scaring the hoes.

Kanye is designing a Renaissance-inspired cathedral to house an iPhone note he recorded last night.

    Dark times for rap.

Sales are more important than critic opinion. Its objective measurement of enjoyment. No politics, no dweeb art student giving weird songs 10/10 because of the political issue of the day.

Sales though have to be broken up into streams, radio play etc. to get a more accurate gauge of what’s the people think vs what are labels pushing.

People always say this but don’t hold it up to other forms of art like music is inherently more disposable, nobody argues that Disney makes objectively the best movies, or EA’s FIFA games or yearly COD releases are objectively the best games, or disposable airport romance novels are objectively the best books

What Kendrick joint they play in the club

Not sure if this a joke or not but genuinely intrigured

    Humble or Kings Dead

lots of people have disney movies and COD as what they would consider the best... Like MW3 was lots of peoples favorite game when it dropped.

I mean I'm sure a lot of people like drakes verse too

Yeah, fair enough. At least you like the song itself.

I’m not surprised. The general public who just wants some bangers isn’t gonna listen to this for long. Kendrick is going ultra instinct schizo mode on some of these songs. It’s more for the fans and rap heads. Personally I love it but I don’t think the sales are gonna be crazy. They will be consistent. It will crawl it’s way to double platinum.

Edit: wait he’s still doing great on Apple Music you made it sound like he was falling like a rock

    9/10 all Kenny

By Tuesday, he'll be lucky to have 5 songs in the top 10 because other songs are rising and will be entering the top 10 soon.

Not just Drake. I've seen tweets from a lot of Kendrick fans s***ting on J. Cole just to praise Kendrick. And it's weird because when J. Cole or Drake drop albums, no one thinks about Kendrick but when Kendrick drops, his fans are talking down on everyone up to try to convince themselves that he's better.

That's how they did with TPAB (which I believe is an actual masterpiece) but that album struggled to reach Platinum certification and doesn't get streamed but an album like GKMC (which dropped 3 years prior to that album) is also a masterpiece and gets streamed more than some albums that dropped this year lol.

I will NEVER believe that to make a "great album" the music on it has to be borderline unlistenable because that's just a f***ing lie and that's especially a lie Kendrick fans will try their best to push with this album, especially when they see how it performs weeks/months after it's release.

Why the f*** should I care about how great an album supposedly is if at the end of the day, I'm left with no desire to play it back? Doesn't that defeat the very purpose of releasing said album?

These are people who force themselves to like it because some people they don’t know gave it a good number out of 10 or they got lots of statues for.

I think other forms of art (movies for instance) are reliant on promotion. In this era if you’re really good your fav artist is putting his music on all platforms paid or otherwise and the barrier to someone’s ear is low.

It’s why there are so many artists because you can really gain a following if you sharpen your sword enough. You can write, produce and engineer the whole thing yourself without a whole lot of help or expense.

You can’t really do that with movies or games. It’s hard for an obscure movie or song to really pop off like that to count stream for stream - so many factors can get in the way.

They had all the tough talk about the album's quality and commercial performance before it dropped but now that the album is out and they're seeing real-life interactions with the album and how the songs aren't really holding peoples' attention, there's every excuse in the book. It's really funny.

  • May 15, 2022

People still don't realise that traditional promo doesn't really do s*** anymore, it's not an excuse for Kendrick's "low" numbers. If you're a megastar these days you don't really need a single/buzz for months/interviews/talk shows anymore... because they have social media.

it's how Future just sold 220k? when no one cared about his singles whilst in 2020 he sold 150k with Life is Good going rampant.

it's how Drake did 605k with no single (except LNCL a yr prior), no interview, no talk show, he barely even talked about CLB. Anyone that thinks the heart in his head did anything is pure delusional.

these days it's even arguable how much of an effect singles have on an album's first week numbers for megastars. I honestly think these days the best promo by a huge distance is literally just features

Just to be clear, all albums lose a ton of streams on Saturday/Sunday. What will be telling is how much streams the songs off Kendrick's album lose and how/if they recover by Monday's update.

Also, it's Apple Music performance is probably what should be focused on seeing as that's where most of his streams will be coming from anyways.
