The cope itt is insane

There are mental asylum patients in this thread that think we listen to drake for the charts and not because we genuinely enjoy his music lol
The massive numbers he puts up should let people know that he has a huge listenership that spends most of its time actually listening to his music. It's also real because he never engages in industry tactics to make himself appear bigger than he actually is. That's why there's always been such a consistency to his numbers.
I see what you’re saying, but I just think you have to consider all of the factors when determining if something is a “flop” or not.
One factor is that it’s DRAKE, for sure. That definitely plays into it. But IMO you also have to be fair and consider the other factors that play a role in an album’s sales and commercial success: things like the duration of the rollout,, how long that artist went without dropping to drum up desire / anticipation / thirst from their fans, and whether the genre of the album is a.) commercially popular and b.) if the genre’s audience overlaps with the fan base of the artist.
You see what I’m saying?
Nah, yall weren't doing all this a month ago
Crazy how yall switching up and wanna talk about the broader context now

I get where you're coming from. The thing with Drake, though, is that his fanbase is ALWAYS eager for more music lol. Drake fans always let him know when they don't care for something — they simply won't support it lol. That's how I know many of them don't care for this album. Maybe it'll grow on them later but for now, they're not feeling it and the numbers are reflecting that and there's nothing wrong with that.
Drake has a dedicated listenership, not unlike Taylor Swift's fanbase. That woman dropped an album in 2019, 2 albums in 2020, and 2 albums in 2021 and she smashed with every single one. Why? Her fans cared enough to support them. When you have a following like that, the only time they won't have your back is when you give them something they absolutely don't care for and that's very understandable.
I'm just glad that I, along with many others, actually enjoy the album because at the end of the day, flop or not, as a fan, that's really all I care about. I'd be more worried if Drake dropped an album I didn't care for and smashed than if he dropped an album I cared for and flopped.
cause u only talk numbers when it comes to drake and basically only focus on the sales wins
That's because you only ever check for me in this particular thread. I spend a lot of time discussing his music/career in other threads.

We literally discuss numbers in the sales thread and discuss the albums in drake sxn
Use ur head dummy
All in all, I'm glad the sales talk is just in this thread. Makes the site so much better lol
I mean, yeah. If 295k is a flop for Kendrick, then less than 200k is a flop for Drake. I know Kendrick had the 5-year hype going for him but his album flopped because he made an album rapping about s*** most people didn't wanna listen to (as evidenced by his huge first day numbers and how quickly the numbers dipped from day 2). I even said it that if Kendrick returns with a DAMN-esque album in a year, he'll do better numbers. MMATBS flopping in no way means Kendrick has lost his commercial viability all of sudden. It just means that particular album wasn't it for most people.
Lol I guess we just don’t see eye to eye on this because I don’t consider Kendrick pushing 300k a flop at all. Honestly, how could it be? It’s third best in all of hip-hop over the last couple years and it would’ve been second best if Kanye didn’t put half a million songs on his album.
I actually think Kendrick’s five year hiatus backfired for him a little bit, because it was over the carefully balanced line of being gone for long enough vs. too long. Fans are fickle and they’ll forget all about you, especially the way music is consumed these days. Plus he suffered from the loss of the ability to do bundles, of course. I thought 300k was a respectable and healthy number for the #2 rapper in the game dropping without a smash single.

Don’t f***ing generalize me, man. There’s not a single moment on this site where I’ve moved drastically unfairly, or without considering the broader context of a conversation. I’m always level-headed in these conversations and I’m bringing that to the table still a decade later… The lone exception is I have a ton of hate in my heart for XXXTENTACRUEL so I used to come for him and his fans constantly with just vehement hatred.

I mean, this whole thread was made because I peeped Kendrick fans suggesting he'd do 1M first week and I was trying to get them to understand that it was impossible because of where music currently was. I'm on the first few pages saying he won't do more than 350k and if fans were feeling his album, he'd have done around that range.
I'd say the album is a flop relative to DAMN. but I also agree that taking a 5-year break in his prime years was very unwise. Plus, he was on some "burn that hard drive! Smoking on your top 5!" energy like he was coming to kill s*** only to return with a deeply personal record so that was also misleading on his part.
Either way, if we really wanna have discussions about the state of the game, it should be about how there aren't enough newer acts established enough to carry the torch and how/why we still have rappers 10+ years into their careers as the biggest and the most impactful rappers in the game and why that shouldn't be the case. That's something that's bothersome and something no one seems to want to talk about.
Damn people really not feeling this. Just had a look at the numbers myself, kinda shocked even having followed it on here.
Now the tricky part for Drake is should he try and come back quickly or would that be the worst thing he could do as personally I'm noticing a lot of resentment towards him rn
@safe so like are yall gonna give op to somebody else or what ctfu? This not updating the thread with the constant barrage of Twitter chart predictions and hourly stream/airplay charts from Woj ass music sources, when op been living breathing this thread 24/7 until now s*** just unreal. especially since the thread url is

S*** not a objective sales thread it’s a drake stan with too much time on her hands

Fair enough. But Drake stans, including the one you're having this discussion with, were quick to dismiss any attempt at discussing the factors that led to Kendrick's sales

I would like to throw my hat in the ring for being OP. I'm impartial with no huge preference for any artist whatsoever and would make sure all sales numbers are up to date.

like I respected her hustle at first on some A&R/studying the game type s*** cause she really did go odee with the research and airplay statistics and s***
but at some point op jumped the shark and just turned the thread to some corny ass troll s***. all the s*** do is make drake fans like me who like the album look 10x worse
