  • An album isn’t an album

if you wanna cope like this sure

it's more like winning the Champions League & then a few months later losing in the UEFA Super Cup 5-0 to a team like Villarreal

everyone knows Drake could drop a normal album in a few months and do 500k+ easily again, unless you're just insanely delusional

You don’t get to say cope in this climate

Reminder that as of last week, before this album dropped, Drake was the most consumed artist in the US just off the strength of his catalog.

If he keeps making non-rap music and those albums keep flopping, he'll still be a top selling artist every single year in the US.

People still have a huge appetite for Drake's music, especially in the US. This album flopped simply because it isn't what they expected/want from him. There'll likely be some features he'll do later in the year that'll perform a lot better to let y'all know that's the kind of music Drake fans want from him.

Anyone using the performance of this album to suggest it means people are done with Drake is simply being delusional and shouldn't say s*** when he drops another rap album and does massive numbers and Drake stans come in here and do the most to rub it in people's faces.

TGD you keep saying “flop” but in what world is 200k flopping for a no-rollout nine-month-reload House album?

    Cope

    We know Drake is massive.

This album f***in flopped, though. This is the sales thread that you created, remember? The one that was initially about Kendrick but you changed it to this to troll.

Stop writing 5 page articles to try and mentally backflip yourself out of reality just because the tables turned. It’s embarrassing.

No L to hold, really. I've already agreed the album is a flop days ago but Drake will still end the year as the most streamed/consumed artist in the US + one of the biggest in the world lol. That just shows you how invincible he is.

Even when he fails, he wins. I know y'all can't stand it.

yep people said this exact same thing before Scorpion dropped, how people hated Views so they wont tune into something new.

then they also said it before CLB dropped, yet it was worse this time, because he had released DLDT which flopped both first week AND long term.... plus released Views & Scorpions, two albums people "didn't like". Yet again he proved he could still put numbers up

you genuinely believe if he releases another album exactly like CLB/Scorpion he'll do under say 350k first week?

If he releases another album like Scorpion with massive hits he'll easily do 500k-700k again

If it's another album with no mega hit like CLB and HN I think he's going to struggle to clear 350-400k

I doubt he can go 3 albums in a row just coasting on his name without producing a huge hit

50k would’ve been a flop. 100k even. But the VAST majority of artists can’t touch 200k even with their strongest foot forward, yet it’s a flop when Drake does it on a House album with no rollout? 🤨 nah

It'll do less than 200k and when I say "flop," I mean for Drake's standards. He's the only one I compare himself to. And also, I wanna keep the same energy. I promised I'd always do that.

It's clear the GP doesn't care about Drake's album, hence it's performance and that's okay. It just shows they don't eat up everything he dishes out. What matters most is that more and more people are f***ing with the album. If that eventually translates to better numbers down the line then fine and if not, it's cool as well. It'd be bothersome if the album flopped and people weren't f***ing with it.

It's clear to me now. You're not here to discuss sales in any way or form, you're just here to coerce a "gotcha" moment. To visually perceive users act in such deplorable faith is worrying.

I mean, yeah. If 295k is a flop for Kendrick, then less than 200k is a flop for Drake. I know Kendrick had the 5-year hype going for him but his album flopped because he made an album rapping about s*** most people didn't wanna listen to (as evidenced by his huge first day numbers and how quickly the numbers dipped from day 2). I even said it that if Kendrick returns with a DAMN-esque album in a year, he'll do better numbers. MMATBS flopping in no way means Kendrick has lost his commercial viability all of sudden. It just means that particular album wasn't it for most people.

Why wouldn't I? I was a Drake fan before So Far Gone dropped lmao. I became a fan in mid-2008. Never in a million years did I think he'd become as successful as he is today.

There are mental asylum patients in this thread that think we listen to drake for the charts and not because we genuinely enjoy his music lol

I see what you’re saying, but I just think you have to consider all of the factors when determining if something is a “flop” or not.

One factor is that it’s DRAKE, for sure. That definitely plays into it. But IMO you also have to be fair and consider the other factors that play a role in an album’s sales and commercial success: things like the duration of the rollout,, how long that artist went without dropping to drum up desire / anticipation / thirst from their fans, and whether the genre of the album is a.) commercially popular and b.) if the genre’s audience overlaps with the fan base of the artist.

    You see what I’m saying?

cause u only talk numbers when it comes to drake and basically only focus on the sales wins

Some of you really think we're only fans of Drake because of his success when it's really just nice to have a fave that's always successful lol. I do the same thing for my favorite actors/athletes. It's always nice to see them succeed in their respective disciplines because it also inspires me to go hard and do the same in my own life.
