I feel like Kanye being so religious right now is him actually trying to find God by being superduper strict and talk about god whenever he can but in reality he is not religious and he doesn't feel anything it's just him trying to see if he can force it upon himself by going overboard with this religion s***

The music is great tbh and it's a phase he's going through and I respect it but I just feel like Kanye is that dude from a Bruce Almighty movies where he wants to be with God but simply can't feel it so he decides to become crazy religious for a certain period of time to see if God shows up

Tbh I just feel like he's trying to find a meaning in the whirlwind that his life is wether it's alcohol/drugs or religion.

I don't think that he's being fake about it imo it just reinforces the idea that like he said it in 2010 on MBDTF he seems lost in this world without his mother just trying to navigate fame which is obviously a framework he doesn't fit in (his Twitter account being the main example among many other things)

It doesn't seem real or genuine

It feels like he is trying his best to find God as fast as possible by doing all this and there will come a time when he will give up and say "I'm going back to my old self" and just start doing crazy s*** again

idk how you came up with this summary.

For much of the album he talks about being renewed and at points mentions dying in order to see his mom again

in the video he's symbolically at the end of his life being raised near visuals of his mother....but does not make it because "God's not finished"

i can definitely see where you're coming from but i feel like his feelings are genuine

the fact that he went from doing the p***hub awards and the i love it song was a big catalyst in finding god for him, he said on the zane lowe jesus is king interview that he was at his lowest point in that moment and was just starting to realize it

in my opinion he's already less religious than he was a couple years ago and unless something dramatic happens i doubt he'll get any more religious but with that said i think religion is always going to be a part of him from now considering he feels that finding god truly saved him

That's a great take

And I agree with the "fake" part.
It's not like I think that he does all that and then goes home and acts completely different

I just think it's not coming from a place of faith but more from what you have described which is trying to find a place for himself

Last couple years he is desperately trying to find his place in religion
But the way he "tries" makes it look like it's pretending and a phase that will eventually end and he might try his luck in something else

I don't think you can just wake up one day and "decide" you are religious
And I believe Kanye wants to be all THIS but in reality he isn't. That is why he tries so hard to become religious by doing all this extra stuff

It doesn't feel or look like a genuine enlightenment - more like wanting to be enlightened and doing everything you can to make it happen

That's interesting. I might listen to that Zane Lowe interview because it seems like he had a lot of s*** to go through during that talk

Also it's a good point about him being less religious. Jesus is King felt a bit like trying to much but DONDA despite being deeply connected to spirituality and religion isn't a religious album. A lot of great songs and features.

It might be a sign he's starting to get a grip of what it's all about and from now on (or at least in the future) he will find a perfect balance between actually being religious and making the world think you're religious (rn I think he's more focused on the second part)
