despite the similarities to champloo tho bebop is (literally lol) in a diff universe.
champloo is def more traditional character development
bebop kinda doesn't have that, and the characters can be frustrating to watch. like the characters in champloo are loveable a******s and u feel for shawties plight.
the characters in bebop are genuinely.. frustrating. which is what makes the show great because they move like real people.

yeah I really loved that champloo maintained that serialized structure while still having the overarching story and character development throughout, I’m assuming bebop isn’t like that and sticks much closer to the serial structure then? Regardless I just saw that eva is on Netflix so I don’t even need to worry about downloading it, gonna start rn

Gunbuster is like neon but more similar to bebop so I get why you probably like it more
I feel like the NGE mindfuck side is a bit overstated, it's like when people say "it's a mecha that isn't about the mecha..." (as if any mecha is actually about the mecha since Gundam). I much prefer Giant Robo, Patlabor and Gunbuster (or even Kare Kano, one of my favorites) to NGE, and especially so if I'm recomending to someone that probably don't watch many anime.
Most of all he needs to watch Totoro, Porco Rosso or Spirited Away
