my overall point is he aint really a huge fan of these people or acts like he is a fan of Lauryn Hill or Nas or Pharsyde or Hov who he'll continually bring up and make reference to

he has friends/collaborators in the industry who show him the "eclectic" stuff and he'll jack the swag and adds a little bit of his own spin on it coming from his background of Rap/R&B/Gospel but ultimately will always return to those genres because thats who he is

He has good taste in friends you could say, but I don't see him finding this s*** without someone else in the room telling him about it, and I think its giving him too much credit to act like he's the most tuned in person across all wide varying forms of music when his main reference point and technical ability always tends to comes back to sampling, drums and rap

lol it wasn't ever that "he's always thinking of Fiona Apple" it's that he's a fan, which you oddly keep denying and reducing a 7 year span as "ultimately moments"

lol and he was literally working on a rock album with the mars volta recently so there's 0 reason to think he's turned away from these genres
