Yeah Outrun. Got some pretty good reviews at the dance

I mean so did Jennifer Lawrence in The Causeway but that s*** was never gonna get nominated either. Little BBC Studiocanal drama Ronan herself helped finance. I would be very surprised

Causeway wasn’t at Sundance. But you know what movie was? Coda, the Oscar award winning for best picture.

Also besides Ronan there’s other Sundance movies from this year that’s getting Oscar buzz/predictions like Kieran.

CODA-19 had the full weight of Apple behind it. I guess if Outrun gets a big pickup

Wait how are you using Causeway as an example when Brian got nominated for it? And he was the best actor in that movie

The policeman got terrible reviews, I doubt anyone credible thought it was getting Oscar noms.

Also just cus Ronan is getting Oscar buzz doesn’t guarantee it’ll happen, I’m just not following your reasoning of why it’s not possible.

You have to campaign for 12 months. It's looking like a self financed movie without a big pickup so far. S*** like Nyad gets through with Foster/Netflix. Ronan isn't even close to JLaw. I just don't see it.

Could still be a good movie or whatever

I still don’t get what that has to do with Oscar nominations? Ronan has been nominated 4 times, the same amount as JLaw.

Your reasoning started with “look at causeway”….yes causeway got nominated.

    Still not following your point

I just explained to you how these awards are the products of campaigns and producers. Causeway was A24 and part of their Apple deal. So again, not a BBC/Canal+ self financed joint. Ronan got Oscar play in big movies

And Jennifer was the comparison. As a lead not a supporting

Copy. So basically the combination of Ronan (4-time Oscar nominee) and StudioCanal as the producers (whom have Oscar nominated movies) makes you believe she has no chance in hell to being nominated?

  • Mar 14, 2024

Need this trailer so bad. I don’t wanna set unrealistic expectations, but at the moment I feel like the film is gonna have big over the top sets that look fantastical. And the fantastical scenes will be contrasted with super gritty scenes

It’ll be a balance of gritty af and fantastical

If nobody picks this movie up, it absolutely won't make it to next March brother. Ronan telling people to watch it on Canal+ ain't gonna cut it.

And someone could pick it up. That could happen!

I mean it’s still early and guaranteed to happen.

    Per indiewire:

“Nora Fingscheidt’s “The Outrun” will be snapped up by a deep-pocketed distributor in the very near future — Saoirse Ronan’s commanding lead performance in her first modern-set movie since 2015 is enough to make sure of that. But whichever outfit is lucky enough to buy the American rights to this windswept adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s memoir will have more than a Best Actress contender on its hands”

That's just a press release laundered through IndieWire but yes, I would expect someone to distribute it besides StudioCanal. Hence why I brought it up. Then it will have to go over well outside Sundance with a campaign.

It's not as simple as "this person has won an Oscar before". I doubt this will be a wide release like Joker 2 and The Challenger.

Of course this won’t be a wide release like joker 2 lol that’s not even what we’re discussing.

Idk for me it’s wayyyy too early to try and claim a movie won’t be nominated. We don’t even know if it’ll release this year.

But it's early enough to say it will be? Before it's been picked up or screened outside of Sundance?

    I guess we agree then

Lol no, my statement has always been “she’s getting Oscar buzz, it’s possible, but it’s not a guaranteed that she’ll be nominated” because yes it is early, but CURRENTLY she’s not out the running.

Damn as one of the few to actually like musicals on here I do not care for jukebox musicals. I don’t want covers would have preferred original songs

    And 15?!?

if they're old timey songs that cleverly fit the themes/characters/world of joker than i think using preexisting songs could be cool.

writing joker/harley specific songs would've been a whole task in and of itself and gone really wrong depending who would've written em

They just need to drop a trailer tbh. Because every detail about this film we’ve heard has just confused me more and more as times goes on

I need to see the look and tone of this movie
