Keep in mind that Kendrick just performed man at the garden and peekaboo on that stage, I don’t think the parameters are as strict as y’all think they are

Yeah but Jay doesn't want Kendrick's reception. He wants Snoop and Dre's

Would be kind of awkward choice given the trend of contemporary mainstream superstars the past 15 years generally.

The bigger discussion is tho how it really looks like an abuse of power. Being the one in charge of picking SuperBowl headliners then choosing yourself once you want to have a new era. It especially looks messy after the whole Lil Wayne fallout last year.

It’s hypocritical to s*** on Lil Wayne’s ability to headline a SuperBowl solo when all points brought up basically also apply to Jay-Z. He is also far past his prime in terms of hits and is not a captivating performer (would definitely overwhelmingly rely on guests and stage props/dancers).

Wayne did just fine doing A Milli at BET Awards

For both of them I think they would obviously bring high energy if they got on halftime stage, but it’d def would need multiple special guests and lots of stage design and dancers to carry them.

Jay-Z pushing 60 it’s not like his ass gonna be even jumping around fr lmao.

I’m just saying it definitely is hypocritical to some extent and politics if they played Wayne like that then decided Jay-Z is good to go in 2026 lmao

Usher had a top tier show and people were saying he’s too old and irrelevant

The past few times when they didn’t do a current superstar they went with an artist who actually was known for being a top stage performer.

Usher, J Lo/Shakira, etc can dance pretty amazing.

Jay-Z ain’t contemporary nor a top stage performer so?

Eminem/50/Dre/Snoop/etc could never headline solo and had to be a package deal. Lil Wayne couldn’t headline solo.

Seems weird after playing in all those rap veterans faces to then turn around and have Jay-Z solo without any reason other than him using his power unchecked lol

Wayne sounded clear and understandable in the BET performance. Your voice changing as you get older just natural to some extent.

Jay-Z also has always had the “talking” voice when he raps that can kinda sound monotone which is also why his voice don’t seem like it’s changed much. He don’t got that stage voice he bring out during a performance, Wayne would be shouting at the top of his lungs lol

im sayin this setlist is good enough not that everything here is known by every person in america but weeknd dead played house of balloons i dont think it matters. every song there other than the last two are massive hits stretching beyond hip hop

At the end of the day Jay-Z is closer to a Lil Wayne tier of live performers than he is to someone like Michael Jackson, Beyonce, and Chris Brown lmao.

It will never make sense to talk down on how Lil Wayne could never handle a solo headline when Jay-Z would have to rely on the all the same exact things to put on a good solo half time

This is a lot more than what Kendrick performed. He opened his set with a unreleased song from an album trailer
