  • it's honestly great to hear such a big artist being open about the bs games

especially with the rise of AI in music
It must suck from his perspective, because the era he came up in the early 2010s was so full of creativity and people really trying to push boundaries, break the mold, find their niche. Now we got everybody wanting to look like a successful artist so badly, they'd rather fake the art than fail on their own terms. I saw that Fenix Flexin song and it hurt my soul bc why is a dope mc willing to play these f***ing games man? for clout? views? because Suno AI cut him a check? s*** makes me sick..

The real question is whether it was ever really organic

    Not really

i still dk what Fenix Flexin is

Fenix Flexin is a part of the LA Hip-Hop group Shoreline Mafia, he was my favorite in the group. they've been making waves since like 2017/2018, though they split up and shuffled members around, etc.

    he starts this song.

recently dropped a goofy 80s sounding record called Rubberz that's obviously AI vocals but he's running with a narrative that it's all him

ah im familiar with shoreline mafia

    that sucks

was it ever organic? not really tbh. in the 80s it was radio payola and cooking the books at Record / CD stores, you"re not wrong, s*** was always a bit of a facade in a sense, and it's only evolved.

if anything, I think nowadays the cap artistry is simply more obvious.

but I will say it sucks seeing the artists who are actually GREAT turn their backs on creativity just out of convenience

there's no reason someone as talented as Chris Brown with as many resources at his disposal should be having AI producers on his album

Doesn’t really mean much when the art you’re making isn’t making you money though

  • Imagine if Frank Ocean said this.

The internet has just made some people be able to see through the smoke and mirrors

The main thing that sucks today is that there isn't really any alt path

Everything is funneled into streaming so there is not alt radios, no mixtapes, no real alt scenes that have leverage or movement etc.

No alt platforms either besides Bandcamp - SoundCloud is taken, audio mack is wiped, YouTube/social media is a funnel to streaming

Music media is mostly dead outside of podcasts, no real interview chances nor magazine coverage, there are no label n talent showcases etc. outside of special events

That's the main issue imo, instead of multiple gate keepers in many areas - you have one major gate keeper for everything

  • Shoutout to James Blake for constantly speaking up about how f***ed up this music industry has become.

Especially since we cant expect that from these rappers

Truly in the darkest timeline. As a “musician” (lol) this really done been marginalized into a hobby. If you think about it too long it could depress tf outta ya (done come to peace wit it)

We in the end stage of an industry that was never really sustainable to begin with (look at how everyone is realizing what a monster Clive Davis was lmaoo)

Well with AI remixes about to become a real thing it’s essentially over creatively. You better worry about how you can get your piece of the pie
