I never said that.
I said I, ME, I’m not into rappers with those circumstances.
idk anything about Donda financing Kanye’s career. or neighborhoods in Canada. and furthermore, I’m not particularly into either of those artists’ early work. maybe that’s why.
why does it really matter, didn't pusha & malice come from nice neighborhood
bro… what about having supportive parents makes you so pressed. any parents can do this, money or not
Lol it's wild. Nigga talking bout others that don't have it. So his parents should not help their child and help others who aren't fortunate enough
Op keeps playing innocent saying he’s “just tryna get a feel for our perspective “ when in reality he’s obv pushing a silver spoon / white man bad tip and even implied having your parents believing in ur dreams growing up is something that makes u lesser than
Well that's your projection. I said that people who have advantages have a responsibility to give back.
A responsibility. Really nigga
@op might have approached this weirdly but tbh…
if your rapper origin story is .. you wanted to be a rapper as a little kid, and your upper middle class parents supported you endlessly to become that, i’m not gonna be super into your music
at the same time.. do you, follow your dreams lol
What logic is this. They can't have a story to speak. Or make entertaining music to turn up too?
This is so corny, you’re not into rappers from middle class backgrounds
As if it makes a difference
lol it’s corny that i’m not super into rappers from upper middle class backgrounds

lol ofc they can. just unlikely an upper middle class guy/woman gonna be a rapper i’m super into. what’s wrong with that?

If this is true, and that’s a big if, then hip hop as op claims it (people naturally making it out of the hood etc) was never really what should have dominated the genre. I remember reading an article about how the whole “hood gangster” rap image was actually promoted by rich white people in the 90s after it was invented in the 80s in order to help fill privately owned prisons w blacks
This could be a total bullshit conspiracy theory but for anyone interested here’s the story: hiphopisread.com/2012/04/secret-meeting-that-changed-rap-music.html?m=1
Why is this thread 22 pages lmao
Because op refuses to stop gatekeeping
why does it really matter, didn't pusha & malice come from nice neighborhood
idk. stories about them range from being d*** kingpins to full blown liars.
but regardless, their story as artists, the one they tell people and the one they rap about, isn’t about being upper middle class and their parents coaching them through their rap career. so I don’t have to think about that when I listen to their music.

I think the actual issue here would be whether or not the music is good or not and usually people who come from those circumstances make generic or cringy music
However one of the biggest outliers to this principle is the nigga who’s site you’re on right now lol

What circumstances are u talking about exactly? Above the poverty line w parents who give a s*** about ur dreams? Lmao cuz that’s like basically all famous musicians
Because op refuses to stop gatekeeping
I don't think every artist has to be a super thug lmao, I like artists from non-hood backgrounds like Cudi, Earl, Tyler. Yeat is cool, even Yung Lean did something different.
But all of them were doing something different. Maybe not everyone f***s with them, but they were doing something creative at the time and described the struggles they faced even if it wasn't street s*** (Maybe not Yeat, he's more about vibes and production).
Jack is talented but he seems to be taking the safest route possible, and he didn't have to do things other people did to stand out. That's a luxury.
But if y'all like him, live your lives.

Don’t even like Jack like that. I agree he’s not doing anything “different” like the other artists u mentioned. Just dont understand why that would warrant u to have this energy towards him that he’s gotta “give back” because he’s white and/or because he didn’t grow up poor when another white artist like yeat who grew up in the suburbs of portland and even adopted the “thug” image which jack didnt have the gall to do gets a pass for some reason

agree.
and when you consider that Kanye is like, a generational talent. and how hard niggas made it for him back then to get past producing… he’s very different.

Yeat's not on yet. If he actually gets established I'd have the same energy for him.

Yeat is literally signed to an imprint of interscope. What would convince u he’s “on”?
