nah he really the perfect mix of kendrick, cole and drake.
drake flows, kendrick concepts, cole ear for beats
ok here's my take on the album
jack harlow is a charismatic guy. I want to see him win, I want to like him. There are some songs on here where it's easy to like him, where I can say he really stood on that s*** (like they don't love it or is that ight, etc). as for the heavier songs, I can definitely appreciate that he's trying to talk about complex s*** that doesn't usually get explored with nuance. idk if he rlly brought that nuance, but I can tell he's trying. I like that, even if I don't like the songs themselves that much. Like the pedo rape one is a miss, but I can tell what he was going for, and I can appreciate the thought behind it at least. The brother/father song is nice, but suffers the same problem as a lot of mid steppers songs did. basically, it might be some real s*** but at the same time who asked for a song abt this from jack harlow. The questions song tho is actually pretty nice, it's probably my favorite track off first listen, even if it borders on corny at times.
basically im saying
jack harlow. u are a pop star. u dont need to prove that ur real, that ur rlly abt this hip hop life. u don't need to pander to old heads and talk about "real s***" either. u got put on bc u got a smooth flow when u try n u can write killer hooks. get in the booth and make hits. if u want to be an artist w it, approach making hits as if it was an art form. u do not need to go kendrick/cole on us.
it cant be
this track has horrible vibes. like why are we talking abt this. also why would u put the chinks line on the white privilege song
Kendrick influence

that being said, i think the album did what he wanted it to do. this album was 1. for his old fans who thought he went pop 2. for ppl who didn't think he could tackle serious s***. and yes he did tackle that serious s***, and yes he handled it pretty damn well for the most part (not counting the pedo rape song obviously). im just spitballing here, but i think a good chunk of the target audience is going to be pretty satisfied w this.
this nigga slim reaper writing novels
when im up late on low sleep i write straight novellas in these threads.
s*** fun to me

i don't doubt jack is a real one as far as what he f***s w, most successful artists have pretty good taste. but the guy is just not that good at making this type of stuff. it feels directionless, and the serious rap s***, u need to have direction there. I would much rather see him on his bad boy s*** rapping abt hos and ice in a velour tracksuit. who is asking for these songs abt rape n pedo
gang gang gang is 100% one of those songs that attempts to tackle a social issue but does it on such a surface level that ends up saying literally nothing and asking no questions. just "here's a problem that exists" over a beat. it will be incredibly overrated by airheads that think any mention of a social problem = being conscious and lyrical
my theory is this is a "get it out my system" kind of tape, a passion project, put out so his fans can be like "what abt Jackman" when ppl won't take jack harlow serious. the "real album" is probably still in development.
rlly who is ever going to listen to any of these serious songs on their own time. it's the mid steppers problem. sure, nice piece of art there, but f*** i look like listening to songs abt toxic masculinity or rape pedo when im trying to chill
4 tracks in this is really good
like think abt this. if drake got in the booth and started spitting some s*** abt feminist theory, it literally does not matter if he's saying the most rock solid valid s*** ever spoken. people are not trying to listen to drake songs abt that sht. there are a million and one better ways to engage w feminist theory, and there a million and one better topics for a drake song.
so drake doesn't make songs elaborating on feminist theory, he sticks to making hits, with the occasional "nice for what" as a vague feminist gesture. Jack Harlow should take notes.
Gang is very interesting and I appreciate Jack rapping about the subject.
