i mean, that's just drake but worse imo. i don't think kendrick will ever be the guy i go for best production, hooks, and song writing rap wise
The main point was me simply pointing out traits in Kendrick (musicianship) that he leans into that elevates his raps past great lyricism. It's the same difference that separates A Frank from a Weeknd (imo). It's a substantial edge that makes his art stand out.
Sounds counterintuitive but it takes a willingness to "fail" to get to that level
gotta be willing to take risks and not give a damn for that lol.
The pre chorus on the let out so hard but that actual hook ass
Hook the best part
OHHHHHHHH WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUUUUUUUUT WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUT
Remind me of some Kast s***
He was on his late 90s frontman vibe
Nigga thought this s*** was red hot chilli peppers, rap nigga
lowkey reminds me of some Bone Thugs type cadence on the verses
Hook the best part
OHHHHHHHH WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUUUUUUUUT WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUT
Remind me of some Kast s***
Don't disrespect outkast like that
It's so bad ðŸ˜ðŸ’”
It's stuck in my head but not in a good way. Hate that s***
Hook the best part
OHHHHHHHH WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUUUUUUUUT WILL WE SURVIVE THE LET OUT
Remind me of some Kast s***
Friend texted me it's like spottieottie, boy I damn near threw up
Cole proved me wrong with this s***. I forgot how vulnerable he can be. That’s when he’s in his bag for me. I like the flex bars but this s*** for the soul
If you had to pick a favorite song from (just one per) each Cole album, what would your tracklist look like?
Will it sound strange if I say that after listening to the Cole record all week, I've realized that he doesn't have a strong 'WHY". Like the sequencing, cohesion, sample choices, some of the themes.. I get the concept, but the execution doesn't drive the point in a very 'impactful' way.. and I think because it gives the 'how and the 'what' but there isn't a strong 'WHY'.. which exposes a lack of intentionality.

and gnx is the worst example of that considering how generically poppy it sounds. no frank ocean album is even close to the genericness of gnx. in fact gnx is closer to a weeknd album than a frank ocean one. his long term strengths were story telling and his conscious content, and him hiring jack antonoff while using west coast flows doesn't change that
the rapper signed to a billionaire doing a trunk tour with a hometown beef/love album is a slant too
Cole off Roc tho

Why for some of the sample choices, interpolations would be to serve as a love letter to hip hop and the why for some of the lyrics and references to transport you to his home in different time periods
The why for splitting the album in 2 disc would be to juxtaposed the different mindset at different ages towards his pillars (city, music, wife). Disc 29 being about falling out or wavering love to contrast with Disc 39 being about rediscovering and reaffirmation of love for those 3 pillars is how I took it

Gnx ain't anything deep. It was made clearly with the intent of LA vibes and homage to g funk/west coast sounds. It's good for what it was at the moment. You would expect Fall Off to be better after 10 years of cole working on it on/off
And that’s fine but someone challenged me on why I find Mr morale better than GNX so I was giving my reason. Not sure why you felt you needed to say that but I hear you.
