Not to get into the Kendrick album debate in the cole album thread but the way he handle the savior thing is probably my biggest problem with that album and makes the messaging of that album fall flat for me.

Helps that the music was great. Kind of the whole point of making music imo.

Rap was so much better when the Stans of these 3 rappers didn’t exist.

There were stans of the previous generations rappers so what’s the difference

no. meaning you typed a lot without saying s*** lol

ehh.. depends on how you look at it.

I studied music in the perfomering arts for most of my life. When an artist get to the caliber of the two.. like for me discipline vocal pedagogy. When you get two elite vocalists that have impeccable technique and show monstrous skill.. you start looking at their level of musicality as artists. Yes singer B.. has the speed and agility to execute these incredible riffs/runs,.. but know where WHERE to place them, why you choose to resolve the chord in this way.. incorporating different dynamics to add to the story of the song.. this is muscianship and separate a vocal artist from a pedagogue.. I see the same thing with a gifted rapper and an elite MC/lyricist.

Another example of someone with a peculiar sense of interpretive wit that makes their art resonate is Frank Ocean (imo). At this point, Ken and Cole are splitting hair in terms of raw artillery in their arsenal. When I change lens and start a***yzing the power of the art itself. Kenny edges and that's mostly due to his musicianship.

Are you genuinely unable to understand that people can change their views over time?

Lmfao dont try to frame my argument to YOUR interpretation.

I understand his “views changed” spoiler alert he was just a fraud with no real political conscious tryna get a bag

The way he went about expressing changing his views was b**** made Tupac would NEVER say some s*** like that. How full of yourself do you gotta be to think people saw you as a messiah so you have to say “oh im not your savior “ again he coulda just shut up he did it to himself.

And youre weird for defending that stance like thats a respectable one. Bro just outwardly says “don’t expect me to speak on no s*** politically” and thats cool in the 20s? Okay

the issue is with all that musicality, his music post damn doesn't have a lot of replayable value so i doubt its worth much. once he went the "i'm a hypocrite so don't expect much from me" route with his music, there's not much to enjoy compared to a drake. cole still has the message and relatability factor so there's always something there

Extremely valid. I probably played Ramona Park Broke My Heart the most that year though tbh with Smino a close second.
