Feb 12·3 repliesBlue Manyes, cole usually choses the route of standing for something while being very direct on what his morals are. very different from kendrick who always seems to want to have his cake and eat it too. its not that hard to be wishy washy with your morals while still getting brownie poins for being a concious rapper. that's why cole will always be more real to me.
and the point about the "discussion" is that he thinks him just telling us that he's a hypocrite means he gets to absolve himself of any expectation of consistency. as the listener, that's a very horrible reasoning and its actually hilarious he though he could get away with it. mr morale as a whole has aged horribly because without accepting the message it tries to feed, there's not a lot of positive to take away
I just think we have vastly different interpretations of Mr Morale, but that's also kind of proving my point. You literally cannot do that with a J. Cole album because his messaging is so on the nose. To each their own. I'd still bet a stack Mr. Morale ages better in a decade than TFO.

I'm not arguing Cole doesn't have clearly defined morals. He defintely does, and he seemingly stands on them. That doesn't mean his messaging isn't on the nose. Both artists clearly have a savior-complex, but I feel like one does more grandstanding than the other.

I think the broader question is who isn't morally imperfect? Expecting absolute moral consistency from anyone is kind of asinine unless we're discussing literal prophets or something.
