you're comparing kendrick using slavery for why he should cheat on his wife with white women to cole telling real stories of his home town. stop it

At least Kendrick can execute beyond surface level concepts. "Real stories of his hometown" with no character depth, rehashing multiple decade old concepts, and taking creative license Cole isn't built for without coming off as corny.

If your only gripe with MM is Kendrick saying he f***ed a white b**** out of retaliation, that's your perogative. I think it's comedicly tongue-in-cheek while being layered. He clearly acknowledges the problem and I think he shows he understands the absurdity of framing his own infedility as some kind of historic revolutionary act. No one is taking him saying "I might be racist" at face value, but taking the acenstor bar at face value is where the line is drawn? That's just silly interpretation.

  • Great album after sitting on it

i'll always appreciate cole's realness and authenticity over hypocritical actions covered up with fake "layers". there's nothing complex about wanting to f*** white women lmao

"Going from who the tf Iz you into 4 slower paced tracks kinda feels jarring"

It's a sequencing thing whereby you make sure the tempo ebbs and flows, following up something bombastic with something more stripped back. The song following who tf iz u isn't that great to make it effective tho

That I agree with. I always think about NWTS going from Worst Behaviour to From Time

I think you might be right tho maybe because the preceding track is weak and it sounds too much like the previous songs it's not effective

I've listened to it 7 times brother. I will say I was harsher on it initially and it did grow on me, but it's still just a good album. 6 to maybe a 7/10 for me. Cole is a fantastic rapper and his music is good enough sonically, but that's basically where he always started and ended for me. This album failed to captivate me in any meaningful way, and that's fine. It's still a good album.

yes. he used slavery as an excuse for why its okay. and he's not discussing anything. "discussion" implies a two or more way conversation

  • Oblivion X

Maybe these lines on GOMD were a reference to this

They tryna say I can't come back
Ayy, let me tell you 'bout it
Man, f*** them niggas, I come back

Would make sense seeing how the dude dissed Cole just a year before that came out

Cole is better technically than Kendrick, has better punchlines and a better voice . Kendrick is a better songwriter tho

Aye man that’s fair nothing more anyone can ask of you

I do think if you continue to listen to it you stick with that 7/10 over that 6/10

Issa near 9/10 for me. If it ain’t resonate it ain’t resonate but it definitely did for me I’m like the exact nigga from the exact kinda place he represents and everything he’s doing here creatively works perfectly fine for me

And that’s not to Say it’s certain things Dot or Drake for that matter do better, I’m a fan of all 3 and have enough bandwidth for all of their styles

That's a very literal interptation of discussion, but even then internal discussion/ interpersonal communication exists. You wouldn't argue that Cole isn't dicussing Fayetteville in his work even though he's only talking to himself. They both clearly openly attempt to rationalize things throughout their music. I think a big problem I have with Cole is his outcomes are often over the top didactic, while Kendrick leaves more room for ambiguity or fault. I will concede there's probably value in both, but one's just not my flavor. It doesn't engage me and often feels preachy and inauthentic.

yes, cole usually choses the route of standing for something while being very direct on what his morals are. very different from kendrick who always seems to want to have his cake and eat it too. its not that hard to be wishy washy with your morals while still getting brownie poins for being a concious rapper. that's why cole will always be more real to me.

and the point about the "discussion" is that he thinks him just telling us that he's a hypocrite means he gets to absolve himself of any expectation of consistency. as the listener, that's a very horrible reasoning and its actually hilarious he though he could get away with it. mr morale as a whole has aged horribly because without accepting the message it tries to feed, there's not a lot of positive to take away
