Honestly that "rage" movement was the beginning of the end. The new dudes are just makin bullshit that niggas do not actually wanna hear but labels already invested in them. So there's basically a logjam of WLR-type rappers who no one cares about.

Rage is raps nu metal, it’s gonna age like donkey d*** but there’s still a couple good artists

I do think people focus too much on lyrics being the downfall of the newer generation and to some degree that’s true

But overall it’s their inability to make good interesting music that appeals to more than just 1 type of fan

True superstar rappers are able to deliver in all fields

It’s more than that, though. It’s a groupthink type thing where younger people see other generations as basically enemies when it comes to entertainment(and in general tbh) lol

Sports probably started this with the MJ/Bron, CR7/Messi vs Pele/Maradona, Ali vs Floyd etc..but it’s filtered over to music now too. Kids want their generations goats to be the goats(which is fine)…but won’t even consider or research those of the past.

When I was growing up it was the opposite. We wanted to listen to Pac, NWA etc… these mythical names I heard growing up. Other day on here somebody said if he never witnessed it, he can’t praise its greatness. Like what

Groupthink is largely due to illiteracy and overall dumbassery

This generation not doing much different than the ones prior, but they are definitely the least experienced and aware. While they are the most informed, what they lack in experience and awareness shows in their cognitive processes. That's why the mindless trolling thing happens so much now, s*** don't even be having an underlying theme. Over time that mindless opinion becomes fact because of popularity. They really the same like previous generations imo

Gen Z is the first generation in history to be dumber than their parents by all metrics.

Because everytime you bring up that most aspiring new niggas can’t fundamentally rap you get called an old hating ass nigga for thinking the future of rap doesn’t involve cosplay of Keef Thug Future Carti from 5-10 years ago. The average corner nigga from like a nappy braids Meek Mill freestyle type video (who were tryna take after Cassidy Beans Free Fab etc) were so much better than the average aspiring rapper today who just spams simple ass post Thug and Migos esque punchlines “i ball like (NBA player)” “i ___ like (overdone movie or cartoon reference)” rap is a hustle and just another aspect of people’s brand now

Wayne into thug future keef carti is the turning point. Niggas have no reason to care like that now

Future and Thug started off skilled they just broke all the rules but still had a fundamentally sound base. It’s like a lot of ball players today can pound the rock but they’re not really better at actually playing effective basketball

Uzi might’ve been the last guy that can make a rap song with bars and a chorus and still sound cool and be fun to listen to

  • Rap is going through what R&B went through. R&B used to constantly be top of the charts. Then their groups started to die off and culture shifted. Now over the past decade it has regain some popularity but it doesn't have those same superstars.

And if you look at the genre today, the R&B artists can't sing as well as older generations who could SANG (just like young rappers aren't as good technically today). They rely more on playing with lyrics, beats, autotune, production, etc.

I hate Uzi because he’s one of the main people who pushed the “fuck old music” s***

He played a big hand in causing the divide

Leading a genre means playing a series of political games with labels and the industry as a whole which most of the youth of today find actively distasteful.

Seeing how major labels treated hiphop artists in the late 2010’s (laughable pop crossovers, fortnite figures, corporate jingles, album delays) and the general reliance on anything other than actual musical performance as a marketing tactic for major labels makes the idea of “leading a genre” unpalatable to most of the kids

I’d compare it more to Rock music.

New Rap music has become uncool and niche. The genre is being carried by legacy. Millennials will always tune in for Drake, Kendrick, and Cole because it reminds them of their glory days. We won’t see new superstars in hip hop for a while. I’m not sure what needs to happen.

Y’all talking about how the genre fell off and all modern rappers suck then turn around and glaze Uzi lmao

Bro was the prototype for modern rappers in almost every way

Only difference is he actually made some catchy songs
