Each popular genre has a "superpower" that makes it popular and differentiates from other genres. I believe raps superpower is its ability to convey a wide range of concepts/topics/emotions through its heavy use of words.
The loss of this in newer generations has led to the lack of great younger rappers imo (now they lean too much on the cool aesthetic, which is not a superpower, its a sideffect). The death/drug problems of people like Kodak, JuiceWRLD and XXX meant that people who could have upheld that superpower are missing. Doechii has it though. Think the Drake vs Kendrick beef will have a positive influence on this for the next gen.
Because everytime you bring up that most aspiring new niggas can’t fundamentally rap you get called an old hating ass nigga for thinking the future of rap doesn’t involve cosplay of Keef Thug Future Carti from 5-10 years ago. The average corner nigga from like a nappy braids Meek Mill freestyle type video (who were tryna take after Cassidy Beans Free Fab etc) were so much better than the average aspiring rapper today who just spams simple ass post Thug and Migos esque punchlines “i ball like (NBA player)” “i ___ like (overdone movie or cartoon reference)” rap is a hustle and just another aspect of people’s brand now
Wayne into thug future keef carti is the turning point. Niggas have no reason to care like that now
Sooo many people aren’t ready for this conversation tbh. These new generations of rappers genuinely can’t write a good 16
