I find that interesting seeing as how the term “old Kanye” was coined in the Yeezus era
Cause Yeezus separated Old Kanye fans from the Kanye that made Yeezus and yelled at Sway
Yeezus era was only 8 years after the George Bush incident. 4 years after the Taylor Swift incident.
Are you trying to tell me that you think that during the Yeezus era, people said "old kanye", because they thought he was a nice person before?
Everyone definitely does not know this lol have seen far too many people believe he was somehow humble, modest, etc in the college dropout era up till Taylor swift incident

You tell me why they coined the phrase during Yeezus era
Btw It’s a fact that’s when they started using the term

They said it because they didn't fw with the legendary set of producers he had for that era and have bad taste in music. They didn't like the electronic/industrial sound on it, and they wanted the soul samples. Words, meanings, and people change, old kanye in 2013 isn't the same as 2020. F***, yeezus era kanye is old kanye now.
but you cant answer questions with questions. You're not here to discuss anything. Knew i shouldn't have taken this f***in bait
I always thought "old Kanye" just meant his old style of music pre Yeezus, and not necessarily his personality
But admittedly I am a post Yeezus fan so I don't really know
What's the correlation ?
That he's been getting hate for being egotistical and controversial since College Dropout.

People thought this guy was humble and modest? Dawg c'mon
In my understanding they started using the term Old Kanye when he started ranting and doing insane amounts of interviews loudly expressing himself
I’m pretty sure people romanticized Kanye and when they saw him turn up in the public eye and be so adamant about getting the infrastructure to design shoes and clothes it went against their perception of him.
Not knowing he been turning up and standing on tables at the record label he just did it publicly for his opportunity in fashion instead of at the label for his opportunity to rap

I think it’s deeper than music. No?

Damn bro...it's not that serious

The consensus around the bush incident is majority postive tho
And that's the point of the thread, people think theres this "old kanye" when there has never been that ever, he's always been that way, it's just amplified now.
“ I hate the new Kanye, the bad mood Kanye, the always rude Kanye, spaz in the news Kanye I miss the sweet Kanye chop up the beat Kanye is like to say at that time I’d like to meet Kanye”
Cmon now let’s talk about it
Only thing that really changed was coverage but trust Kanye been spazzing
I just wanted your take I gave my answer don’t get so upset buddy

Most of the hate that he's gotten is definitely deeper than music for sure. Most of it throughout his career has been unwarranted. Definitely one of the most misunderstood, and he doesn't make it easy.
but the term "old kanye" means different things to different people.
I miss the old Kanye, straight from the Go Kanye
Chop up the soul Kanye, set on his goals Kanye
I hate the new Kanye, the bad mood Kanye
The always rude Kanye, spaz in the news Kanye
I miss the sweet Kanye, chop up the beats Kanye
I gotta say, at that time I'd like to meet Kanye
See, I invented Kanye, it wasn't any Kanyes
And now I look and look around and there's so many Kanyes
I used to love Kanye, I used to love Kanye
He references people think he spazzes out more like you said, but there's people that think the old kanye is the soul sampling Kanye.
But most people have known he's been a spaz from the start. Check his first grammy speech.
I know... I know everybody ask me that question, they want to know, "what Kanye is bout to wyle out, he's gonna do something crazy."
He had that reputation as a spaz from the start.
If we really wanna get into semantics I Love Kanye is him literally admitting there's an old and new Kanye. Or is it just ironic?

Ehh not really the song written from the perspective of people/fan that said that and even sounds satirical

Fasho it’s a mix of both but we did get real friends and Kanye was still chopping. Nina chop (Famous), FSMH, 30hours, even on sight a lil bit
I think for the most part people are lamenting his attitude & I think Nike not letting him design more was like 30 Grammy snubs to him. For the most part I think he just started pursuing fashion harder which he always wanted to so I don’t think there was really an intrinsic shift in who Kanye is. People just stopped understanding his ambition and therefore took the Rose colored lenses off of his personality

It's positive now in hindsight. It was not positive back then by the majority of America.
I guess there are people that think Kanye used to be sweet and modest. Idk how but sure.
I know... I know everybody ask me that question, they want to know, "what Kanye is bout to wyle out, he's gonna do something crazy."
But this is literally his first grammy acceptance speech. Anyone that thinks he was sweet, modest, and not a spaz either doesn't remember how he was, or never knew.
Anyway there definitely is an old kanye now, is the one who didn't support Trump. Everyone saying there was an "old kanye" in from the Pablo days and before were wrong, because like y'all said he's been that way.

Yeah exactly they don't remember or they don't know how he used to be, they romanticize an idea of who they thought he was. You can search old kanye and humble in twitter and see tweets ranging from 2011 to 2020 of people saying they miss the old kanye and how humble he was. They think he suddenly just became arrogant and cocky after grad.

Yeah Kanye was perceived as a sweetheart by most people for some reason
Plus roaring synths on his music shook up people who put him in a box

I see what y'all are sayin now. Personally I'd say I would've 100% agreed with you through the end of 2018.
I guess my main point is the "old kanye" is different depending on who's using the term. You can find someone who's been a diehard stan through 2018, but didn't like the gospel album in JIK. Born again Ye is the new kanye. That's similar to the people that were fans through the initial trilogy and thought the new kanye was the autotuned 808s kanye, or the industrial yeezus kanye. Those are all evolutions of artistry, and i don't like the old/new term when it comes to that but understand why people use the term.
I see what y'all are saying about the romaticized idea of who Ye was, but I don't think of that first when I think of "old kanye", because I've been a fan since Through The Wire and have always followed him and heard the hate. So in this specific "old kanye" usage, you're right.
But for me, the new Kanye is when he started supporting Trump. Not even right away. For a while I thought he was doing the "love everyone/positivity" angle, or the "well it's what we have we have to work with him if we want change," angle, but now honestly it just feels like he wants to be contrarian. For example, with this abortion thing he's pro choice but thinks people shouldn't have abortions. He wants people to have the choice but we should support mothers financially so there are less aboritions. This is a good take, but it's not what Trump or the conservative would ever support. They don't even support maternity leave, only 4 states have it mandatory in the US. And they're not pro choice at all. Often the things he say still sounds like the same Ye, but other times there's no real logic in what he claims to support. I could always make sense of his rants or what he was trying to say before, can't do it with this.
