How f***ing dumb do you have be to get ‘overstimulated’ because of metaphors and slang?
Has this person heard of books or poetry?

rap plays like a movie to me, once niggas start listening to more songs that way it makes it better. why drill music is both good and bad. bad that it’s describing violence and murder, but good that it sounds like a movie putting you the rappers seat describing the details and sounds (ad libs, timing of voice change with beat, the beat itself morphing in real time, etc) associated with a reality you may never get to experience

it’s really hard to take that long, spiral journey with other forms of music because their intended goal most times is to state the obvious of the story of the song you are listening to or use very basic metaphors.

22gz describing the skirt of the wheels, his opps face as they pull up, the vivid nature of the surrounding area, the sound effects of his actions both from his point of view and the victim, and then reality while sliding away hiding from his people/cops and the blinded feeling of success from winning expressed in hoes, d**** and money

man you just not getting that in other music and that’s just one verse, sorry. I get his point lmao

a lot of white neurodivergent people conveniently find all non-white music "overstimulating", they won't eat non-white food because of "sensory issues", and their special interests are only ever typical white person things

On the topic: Saw a white guy on TT whose special interest was Brazilian history and culture. Had me flustered

  • Oct 9, 2025

Tbh he's not wrong, wouldn't call it overstimulating. But yea there's a higher barrier to fully enjoying rap than other genres that really only comes from listening to more rap

Overstimulating isn't the right word to use to describe the things he talked about here.

People being ignorant to cultural references just means you need to learn. People are just lazy.

He’s falling for some real problematic s*** by subscribing to this notion and thinking it’s innocently intellectual. I’m just gonna say nobody says this about classic literature/poetry by white authors, of which is lauded for all of the traits he listed

Taylor Swift is selling millions of more copies than her pop peers because she amassed a legion of fans who connect with her uniquely poetic and multi-layered lyrics in terms of references and entendres to her own celebrity and other pop culture works. Do you know how much context you need to connect to 2020s Taylor Swift lyrics to the point of fandom?

So I don’t wanna hear it

Honestly I feel like she's the queen of UNDERstimulating if anything. There are way more people with dense poetic lyrics without a fraction of the fans.

Lowest common denominator lyrics and milquetoast references allow the most people at once to be into her so deeply, hence the beyond large fandom. On top of having a pretty damn prominent early run that hooked a lot of country fans in (who are extremely faithful more often than not, not the most discerning listeners in terms of being challenged by the music they consume), and after Kanye fiasco it was a wrap.
