DS2 debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 151,000 album-equivalent units; it sold 126,000 copies in its first week.

    vs

The album (My Turn) debuted atop the Billboard 200 with roughly 197,000 total album-equivalent units and held the No. 1 spot for five nonconsecutive weeks.

The fact DS2 sold 125k pure in a time when streaming and torrenting were very much alive is insane

Tbf this was a much different time in terms of charts and how we count sales

If I'm not mistaken ticket sales + merch bundles used to be allowed to count towards albums sales + i'd imagine more cd's were being purchased in 2015 vs 2020

    CDs were already dead

this is why i say it's hard to gauge, streaming had just been added to the billboard 200 when DS2 was released, AM wasn't out yet and overall streaming wasn't half as big as it is now.

it's really difficult to compare future in 2015 to lil baby now because of that

apple music launched at the end of june 2015 ds2 released mid july 2015 right?

That doesn’t really matter, AM was no where near as ubiquitous then so that says nothing

This is true but back then future was still not that big. Like he wasnt even top 5 back then that says a lot

I agree that Baby is probably bigger right now but the logic people are using to argue that point itt is flawed imo

Hes not bigger then Future in 2015. DS2 hype was unreal + the reception to WATTBA. Baby not had that yet but he is on track to have a bigger peak, yeah.

if the streams counted the way they do now I can’t even imagine where it would have been

how so? future is of the era of being allowed to sell merch and have it count as an album sale against baby just having streams or physicals

how were they counted in 2015 vs now?

there’s endless new influences to how it counts toward billboard, just a couple below

future has had at least one smash hit every year since like 2011

    Not really.

Lil Baby is thriving in the streaming age in a relatively non-competitive era.

Future thrived with Drake/Cole/Kendrick/Sean/Nicki as his peers and he still got multiple number 1 albums, major influence, and a solo hit(Mask Off) that's way bigger and timeless than any Lil Baby song, etc.

    But time will tell.
