rap died when all the top artists developed crazy egos and stopped making music together
individualism is the death of everything great

early 2013 when French, Ross, Birdman, Future etc. were dropping mega-mix collabs as blog downloads left right & center
Drake don't drop a hiphop album and the game in disarray... he carrying
Lights in the universal building keep flickering

Drake's relentless dominance is a huge reason why rap became the #1 genre in the US. Remove him from the equation and the music industry looks a lot different.
Future is repetitive and boring but that's his style.
Trap music is supposed to be repetitive and boring
You sound dumb as f***

Boring?
Repetetive? 3 verses all diff flows
100%
There are too many imitators who were drawn to the lifestyle and just put out generic music over cookie-cutter beats.
Too many artists making songs for kids on Tik Tok because that's where the money is.
There are still real artists out there and the older rappers still consistently put out fresh content (Drake, Ye, Kendrick etc.) even though it would be so easy for them to realise a Tik Tok friendly album and make more millions.
I though Honestly Nevermind was super mid, I very much liked the idea but the execution was poor. At least he tried something different tho, that's exactly what we need.
Imagine if rappers never stopped rapping over soul sample beats etc.
honestly tho I just reread OP and the magici sn't gone just for rap, but every genre
even Adele, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Billie Eillish, Justin Bieber are now struggling to sell albums in the US whilst just 4/5 years ago they were selling them like hotcakes

Lets just blame tiktok for diminishing attention spans so much that people don't care about full songs let alone full albums
So Drake was keeping the lights on
Dam
Kendrick, jid, Freddie, Vince, Denzel
All dropped outstanding albums this year and smino will probably drop a great album next week
I don’t believe it’s gone, it’s over saturated with mostly trash from dookie ass artists
Rap the new rock, been known
All those hit rap songs which you heard on the radio all the time before 2015 barely even touched top 15 on billboard
bring us back to that actually, albums mattered more
Rack City was top 10
Could the rise of street rap also be a factor at play? We all know these guys don’t have the friendliest image or brand
Pac, 50 and Wayne are some of the most commercially successful rappers ever. YoungBoy is competing with Drake and Taylor Swift with no mainstream media representation or huge singles. If street rappers rn aren’t “marketable enough” it’s for something completely separate from their image not being friendly
I have a theory that the music industry has been positioning house music to the forefront
Don’t think it’s a coincidence that some of the biggest stars have dropped house albums and the rising stardom of Fred again all happen in the same year
The whites need a W
Ehhh house music has always been popular especially in Europe but we already had the electro house craze of early 2010s
I would love to see it tho, Fred again popularity kinda baffles me. I like him but I wish they gave love to other artists in his field
Other artists like who?
@worsnop984 I think Young Thug made trap music very interesting in the 2010s
Other than that, I do agree it can easily become mundane.
