    How?

Because no ones expecting or claiming these songs will fix anything.

It’s an argument against something literally nobody is saying

Juicy by biggie is trauma p*** according to Drake stans 😂

You're a weirdo who is obsessed with Drake fans. You're the one who needs real help here. You came into this thread, ignored what it was about and made it all about Drake stans. You're a bigger creep than anyone else I've ever come across on this site.

maybe he sells so much because he doesn't talk about it

I'm sure that is a reason. He's "safe" to white Americans. Just like how they will say "I watch sports to not have to discuss or hear about race and politics bullshit!" it's probably the same reason why they prefer to listen to Drake over a J Cole, Kendrick, etc.

Something Drake fans refuse to understand despite me saying it throughout this thread, that's fine, but it is a bit odd seeing how he's had many easy lay-ups to say something without it jeopardizing his career and only make him look better.

I'm not expecting the world from a Drake political song, and I'm not gonna force him. But throughout the 2010s s*** was getting really heavy. While all his peers/contemporaries were out there putting out music calling out the bullshit and bigging up black folks, and also out there in the trenches trying to improve the conditions of the black race in ways they can or feel (Whether it's Jay Z's behind the scenes providing money to families affected by police brutality, or Kanye...doing whatever MAGA s*** he was on) you got Drake coming with some "Kiki! Do you love me!? Are you riding!? Say you'll never ever leave!"

It's just...issa head scratcher is all.

His music is only good for one setting

99% of this section never even listened to Baby outside of the singles so I’m not really taking this too seriously.

Shut up, you weirdo. You made this thread out of no where and for no reason. You got all the responses you could have wanted in the first page.

Yes, you think it's odd that Drake doesn't make negro spirituals with his huge platform. Good for you. Now, move on.

It's gotta be weird as f*** to coon for Drake...

    Spot on

Kinda sad this is where some are at to criticize his career

They will reach for anything. Now they're bringing his son into. Tell me how that matters to what's being discussed? They're all revealing what/how they really feel about him. They can't help themselves.

(Drake raps about politics and social issue)
Niggas: Drake you aren't even American. You were on Degrassi. You grew up rich. You didn't start from the bottom. You're not even black.

(Drake doesn't rap about politics and social issues)

    Niggas:

In conclusion lol, this summarizes that his core fanbase are white americans, even non-american white people can get behind civil issues and talk about real-life issues.

He simply does not want to give up his white-suburban fanbase that are questioning their own racist behavior. If Drake gives off a hint of blackness this album then poof they’re gone, hence why you have him proposing this soft lover boy image. Couple years back when it was IYRTITL season he def had all the darkskin niggas shooting at the camera lens with their hands and hood niggas in look alive. Guess its time to ditch that so his fanbase dont get it twisted

It always be the no avy having 0 followers 0 thread ass niggas. This why registration should be closed. lol.

This just makes Drake look weak. Nobody asked for an album of sociopolitical “hits”. You know if niggas clowned you like that you’d be called p****. If drake can get clowned that easy about his blackness you gotta admit hes p****.

Imagine black men across america not speaking up on s*** cause a nigga said they cant or they’re not allowed to

Can we name 1 song that ever fixed a political issue or social issue?

Alright fixed institutional racism in the US, don't you know? Be Free convinced racist cops to stop shooting black folks. If only Drake would make his own song, racism would be completely vanquished in the US and the world at large.

So then why exactly do people want Drake to rap about these things?

Because that type of music can empower a lot of people. Marvin Gaye what’s going on didn’t change s*** but the album gave a lot of people hope and impacted a generation. To this day that’s probably his quintessential album.

Like i said earlier if y’all don’t think it matters cool. But don’t s*** on niggas that wanna speak On stuff just to defend drake

  • Oct 20, 2020

The only person who was highly successful with political music is Ms. Janet Jackson with Rhythm Nation. Everyone else was either not successful, or heavily criticized.

And most artists don't even go political until late in their careers when there's nothing to risk

You just made it a problem that Taylor Swift, an American pop plant, has endorsed an American candidate whereas Drake, a Canadian rapper, hasn’t

    That’s not weird?

Honestly Drake not endorsing anyone is something I respect him for cause f*** both candidates in the s***.

But what I'm saying is very simple. If Taylor Swift can start calling out homophobia, transphobia, racism, and still call Trump a piece of s*** while not losing any meaningful numbers to her fanbase...I think it's pretty safe for Drake to start speaking up too. You don't have to be an expert on the subject to call out some bullshit b.

Its fine if you want him to speak on things to satisfy your personal pallet, but don't make the thread under the guise its a scratch on his character as a rapper

Drake stans will claim it doesn’t matter but then go and try to tear down that type of music and those who make it.

If it doesn’t matter just say cool and keep it moving

Why don't you leave Drake stans alone and stop bringing them up in every thread about Drake? How about you do that?

  • Oct 20, 2020

Calling socially conscious music trauma p*** is beyond offensive smh. As a huge Drake fan and black man, I’d love to hear his perspective on social issues. He does have the ability and range to speak on his personal experiences that can resonate. However, his identity places him in a weird space that people like J Cole for instance are not in.

Drakes identity has always been dissected, even to the point that people have now resorted to criticizing his son. People in this thread are even criticizing his child’s hair smh. Drake isn’t even viewed as fully black yet there’s this demand for him to be more socially conscious in his music. The same people wanting him to talk about black issues will also say antisemitic statements about him and his family. It’s a tight spot to be in, so I get why he doesn’t do it. As long as he continues to have substance and grows with his music I don’t care.
