the older you get the more you realize that the biggie and pac narrative is basically like having juice wrld or xxxtentacion in your top 5 but for oldheads

Nah, Pac influence still felt to this day and he’s done a LOT of music despite him dying early

XXXTentacion is super overrated imo. Juice WRLD was nice but his discog wasn’t great either

I had a huge comp of Juice leaks, really liked the guy and he had a lot of potential.

But he doesn’t have a classic album

Also Big and Pac have multiple classics

Im in your gen most likely, i don’t think it is. I always felt like for how great of an artist he was he had yet to make some real definitive body of work

It’s more bloated but i prefer Deathrace to GBGR even

i mean yh death race might eb better but GBGR has like 4 undeniable classic huge generational hit songs and is a defining record of that soundcloud era and his whole type of rap, it influenced a lot of artists that came after him, and you probably knew atleast a few people that were obsessed with juice wrld or looked up to him right? i remember he was the largest thing in the world to us at one point and so many people looked up to him and played him nonstop for years, esp goodbye good riddance. like even in 2020 and 2024 i knew guys in my hs that were obsessed with him esp that album

that album has all girls are the same, lucid dreams, wasted, armed & dangerous, and lean wit me back to back as the first quarter

There is like a pool of around 20-30 rappers that you can pick anyone really out of and say they the goat and you have a case for it. It really only depends on what you value the most. Is it hits, influence, lyrics etc?

Personally I would put Pac and Wayne over Biggie just because his catalog is too short to put him in my top 5 or something. But I have a hard time deciding between Wayne and Pac. Probably Wayne > Pac > Biggie

your first sentence is exactly why i find "GOAT" / "top 10" / "mount rushmore" conversations online so bad. if youre not saying one of the people from the pool, people look at you like you have no idea what you're talking about.

I agree. Thats why I prefer when people make have their own personal goat list instead of trying to be more objective or something like that. I might have Thug, Future, Cam, Jada in my top 10 and not Nas, Snoop and Em just because what I like personally

It just depends on what we are basing classic albums off of. Some people would say classics need to be great bodies of work as well. GBGR is not a good album it just had a few good songs.

How many classics would you say are from 2018 to now?

I would saw a lot but I’m pretty lax with what I would consider a classic. I also believe that not all classics are equal.

I won't disagree even though 2pac is my favorite rapper.
