The new ones you can change the setting remotely. The old ones you would have to change out little resistors in the collar to set the setting. They always make a sound regardless if it’s set to shock or not. The dog will yip even with the shock off if it’s been shocked before.

I used to know folks who train Pointers for hunting.

Shock collars are more popular now with folks that have dogs because every local dog trainer trains them with them. They will get onto you about calling them “shock collars” and quickly correct you to “e-collar”
