I’m saying, would you rather sit and read a 1000 page book for 2 weeks or take a vacation with your family for 2 weeks? Which one is going to bring more meaning to your life in 30 years? The random facts you found on page 750, or the life experience you had with your family in those weeks?
I've been on family vacations that I don't even remember anymore 15 years later and I've also read books that have helped feed my family ever since. The value is case by case.

when I speak to 90 year olds, I ask them about life in 1940 Great Depression wartime, not what the f*** they were reading
peace be upon you lmfaoooyou gain more value and information from experiencing life, not from reading a book that tells you about the life you should be experiencing. that’s like watching a stream and thinking you outside in IRL with them partaking in the activity

I ask my grandma about the 1940s to spend time talking to her not because of the value of the story itself. Her telling me wow it was hard back then isn't of actually value other than the time we are sharing in the moment. And we could talk about anything and I would get that value because the value is in the time being spent with her in the moment. But the books she read to learn her craft to give me parents a better life so that I may have a better life gave me more value. She put in that work and I can have more Disneyland trips that I forget because of it. You're losing focus though. Its case by case the value you get from a book or a song or a life experience. You can't dimish and generalize it for everyone.

you should read Heidegger (the most important philosopher of modern time) and the power of presence or just being there, now, which things like books take you out of. this isn’t to deter from reading as a foundation of learning. outside of that setting, it can become an over indulgence and take up important time that could be spent elsewhere.
