Agreed. This isn't bad if anything it's great news. Drake can stand up for other artists now that he has power

This is obviously not what’s gonna happen

Not sure why OVO is with Sony/Todd Moscowitz and not UMG tho

40 said being on the same label could be a conflict of interests for the artist they sign

And this still has nothing to do with the Drake situation

kendrick should have stayed indie man
and if drake is getting all of this off his Apple connects, how much do you think Dr Dre is getting? the guy kendrick signed to

Drake is no different from a CEO at this point. All he cares about his the bottom number. Push Ups should reveal that to anyone

They were struggling to move units with internet piracy and no streaming yet.

People like BoB's album flopped (84K 1st week back then was a flop compared to say 50 Cent's major label debut 1st week) and the labels had to figure out a way to make major money again. They saw how Tyler was able to craft a grassroots fanbase that they could take a percentage of. So they would give him and some that came after decent deals. Also they developed streaming (convenience trap) as a slow burn new revenue stream.

back during the late 2000s to early 2010s where it was before streaming but internet was fast enough to get music consistently, it was either itunes or cds

That’s different. Kendrick willingly and knowingly signed to Dre’s label.

Drake is not publicly attached to any of these companies as an ownership holder

    Except artists aren’t corporations

That’s exactly why the Drake s*** is slimy

No one's making the artist sign. If you a true artist you stay indie. You can't sign to a corp then say you ain't corp. You literally sign papers saying you're music is a product and giving the label permission to market your image as such. Some artists aren't corporate but a lot are because they gave it up

Agreed, that whole era was an experimental phase for labels. Positive thing about it, everyone who were pioneers of that era, are now rich, or even one hit wonders like Dej Loaf, James, we're able to walk away from the industry paid.

I personally don’t think he will as he too still answers to someone who’s interests wouldn’t want that.

But I’m personally always happy to see artists elevate themselves beyond the music.
