Waiting for this to devolve into another capitalism vs. socialism argument ft. the usual suspects
Anyhow, it's not a choice, but people aren't taught financial literacy nor do a lot of people have the excess capital to effectively take part in the "free market."
Ohhh I'm this close ๐ค to going full Bernie just to f*** with OP
Ofc that's why I cook my own food and barely consume products, but it wouldn't put me in a higher wealth class if I just do that
If I was poor and I did that it wouldn't make me richer, and the people who invest in stocks have enough spare money to invest in stocks anyway, that's why rich people also make the most money out of stocks and it's more of a cheat for rich people to become richer
Enough spare money
This the thing. This why niggas gotta start saving young
Need to build up that spare money

Yes but I didn't imply that saving alone will help you become wealthy. It's all about minimizing your spending to your essentials and making the money "work" for you.
In regard to stock market, the billionaires not only have enough money to invest but enough power to manipulate the stocks and get a return out of them

How much spare money do you have to invest in stocks?
I don't know anything about stocks, but the most money I'd be willing to invest in stocks right now is about 3k
While rich people might have 3 million just sitting there, that they could just invest in stocks and make it bigger
And poor people won't even have 3k they'd spend it on rent and food
Not saying you cant work hard as an entrepreneur but that alone doesnt dictate success

Just keep those filthy reds out of here
Likes Socialism
Hates Socialists
You can make all the perfect moves and take the best opportunities, except if there's one misstep, you're shuffled all the way down to the bottom of the totem pole.
Got good grades in high school, went to college for a higher education, got placed in an internship? Uh oh, your momma was stricken with a debilitating illness and the medical bills are out of control. Bye bye path to the middle class.
Doing good in college, even landed an internship at a big company? Too bad, COVID happened, so now your family's small business is failing, your internship was revoked, and it's becoming harder and harder to pay your tuition until you simply have to drop out. Bye bye path to the middle class.
Were you just simply never educated in the first place to take these steps to not be poor? Did you live in an environment that pressured you to commit crimes? Because of this, did your early decisions in life completely topple your path to becoming wealthy later?
Did you actually have an opportunity to leave that environment, but because of the guilt placed on you by family and friends, you decided to stay?
There are an infinite amount of reasons why the impoverished stay impoverished, even in first-world countries. Yeah, there are definitely choices to be made to excel yourself financially, but you're insinuating that these folk already know about these choices and are able to make these choices.
The reality is that a lot of the systems placed are against those who are working class. If we lived in good conditions, no one would be impoverished because our education and infrastructure and social programs would keep us well-kept. But we don't live in good conditions, at least in the US.

If the thread was "Are you efficient with your spending?" that'd be okay but it's foul to say most poor people are poor by choice even if they're in a first world country
Even if they made all the wrong choices I don't think they should be homeless and starve
Not saying you cant work hard as an entrepreneur but that alone doesnt dictate success
Yeah being an entrepreneur is hard and most businesses aren't a big success anyway
i would say a super minimal amount. it definitely does happen, as some people do just make bad decisions, but most people are working their asses off to survive and are still getting whooped
