I’m of the belief the Wu Tang/Mobb Deep inspired sonics and aesthetics and vibe of the era means that a dirty sounding record is paramount to keeping soul and character to the album

If Gorgeous sounds like Dre 2001 then you miss the point completely

I mean that’s fine man, It’s all personal taste. I’m personally a fan of super well engineered albums. I think there’s an art in it. Daft Punk spent years just recording sounds through different mics and preamps just to figure out how to get the best sound, I think that’s really cool and shows the dedication

And even with how the engineering is, It’s still an amazing album and an absolute classic

Not super well engineered what you mean is clean sounding cause if you spend months perfecting a dirty sounding mix it’s still well done (albeit the curated effortlessness of artifice conversation is born from that point)

I like grunge and grit and punk sentiments, I like DIY, there’s people that translate the feeling better than others which proves it’s “well done”

In every sense a hack is a hack

conversely there's plenty of hacks that think something sounding clean or being well presented means its interesting or worth contemplation when it's at best a polished turd

You can practice and become incredibly talented at something but still be a worthless hack devoid of meaning or individuality

There’s also the exact opposite of that

There’s people that only give praise to things that are noisy and abrasive in a very DIY type of way as if it’s the only way to break musical boundaries

And people who try and cover their lack of talent with “it’s supposed to sound messy like that!” Which is what I was describing
